I'm unaware of any expertise or special knowledge he has in these areas. Perhaps he should focus on his core responsibilities: winning football games for England.
He works at the heart of English culture, and racism is literally borne out of fear of other cultures. I'd say he's pretty well placed...
He's the England football manager- he has no more insight than anyone else in these matters. Should he, when he's no longer the manager of England, feel the need to share his cultural thoughts on Betjeman, Cotswolds architecture, the paintings of Constable, the writings of Chaucer etc maybe some publishing company may wish to commission a book from him. It's not in his remit to ascend the wayside pulpit and lecture the citizens of this great country on what he thinks they should or should not believe.
In which case neither is it your place to preach bile. Give it a break and get some joy out of said great country.
Our time on this planet is remarkably short, we have to do what we can, when we can. If he offends a few racists along the way, then all the better.
It's not in your remit to decide what I do or don't post, old boy. However now that you have indicated in your peevish confrontational way the type of posts you don't like, I shall endeavour to post even more of them. Block me if you don't like my bile. Alternatively STFU you daft ****.
As long as he doesn't do it when he should be working and focusing on winning England games, he can do as he pleases. I think he could become a presenter on The One Show when his England gig is up.
I see absolutely no evidence of racism here? Calling someone a racist because they differ from you in opinion is pathetic!!
I love how the mods are so consistent in the 'no politics' rule by deleting fairly innocuous posts about Ukrainian and Russian history but allow this rambling to go on for several more pages.
You think? Well, personally I'd love to know what Gareth has said that's caused any offence whatsoever. Any ideas? Maybe you can help? And anyway, I have a lot of empathy for racists, as sadly, there's clearly an unresolved struggle at the heart of it.
Correct. I'm not deciding anything. I'm commenting on what I've read & think about it. A mature response to my observation for sure. Should help. Why would I block you? I may wish to comment on any of your potential future bilious commentary. I am a daft ****. I won't shut up if I spot ****e/hatred addressed at others. It appears to be your modus operandi. Fertile ground. I'm sure more view it the same way.
Its also become the norm for people to do it as well. Its a vile word to call someone and shouldn't be done as lightly as it is these days.
He is focusing on winning football games. He's asking people not to boo his players before the match. Being booed pre-match isn't going to help us win games is it? He talks in the letter about the duty of care he feels to his players. How do you think it make those players, and their teammates, feel when they are booed for doing something they think it important? If someone booed me while I was paying my respects at the Cenotaph parade I would be furious.
The fact you think it is politics shows one of the issues with the initiative. In my view, it's ill conceived as it is clearly creating division rather than unity and detracting from its claimed purpose as well as the football. Still going to Qatar doesn't help the message either. Surely, mods blocking conversation on it would defeat its purpose.
Agreed, it is ****ing barmy to continue with a gesture which is generating so much hot air and controversy, Why continue ffs?. Let their football do the talking. Racist abuse on Twitter? Boycott Twitter then, but don't drag it into the stadium, find a different time or way to express your opinion..
Southgate should not encourage them to continue something which continues to cause division and booing. That's his role and focus, Simple as. Remove his players from controversy, remove the noise, get them focused 100% on winning.
