10 years ago today, on the 8th July 2009, Markus Liebherr saved Southampton FC. And what a ride its been since that moment! Sadly Markus hasn’t been here to enjoy all of it with us but, to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of his takeover, TSP78 is dedicated entirely to our hero. Ben (Host) kicks off the episode by speaking exclusively to Markus’ grandson, Noah Liebherr. Noah discusses his memories of Markus, and his own view of the Southampton journey since 2009. Following that, a handful of respected Saints-related guests - including Tiff Needell, Simon Peach and Joe Prince-Wright - also share their opinions and favourite memories from the last 10 years. I can remember where I was standing when I heard of the takeover...in the technology department of M&S. I wasn't supposed to be there, but I walked backwards and forwards near the TVs at every opportunity waiting for news good or bad. What a relief. And then the first match with Markus in his scarf. Don't want to remember the sad bits....just the good like the JPT. Thanks, Markus.
10 years of still mainly upward trajectory: despite the last couple of seasons we are so far ahead of where we might have been, but for that gentle Swiss giant of a man. Thank you Markus, thank you a million times. And thanks again for the Podcast Ben!
Only just listened to the podcast...left it till I had time and then forgot until this morning. Have to say I shed a couple of tears as I remembered that first match after the takeover when they played the Greatest Day as they showed a montage of Saints history. It felt like the greatest day. And Markus there in his scarf beaming away. The interview with Noah was revealing as we rarely (or never) hear from the family....I loved the way he kept saying 'we' when he referred to Saints and when he said that it was love at first sight when his grandfather went to Saints. And then recounting how his mother cried when we got promoted to the PL....no doubt thinking about her father at the same time. Thanks, Markus.
