    Can understand that, but Sweden/France is probably an easier route to the semis than potentially Germany or Portugal/Spain.

    True but you've got to play the best eventually.

    England v Germany at Wembley in a major tournament ko game will be unbelievable though. Doesn't get much more buzzing than that, for me at least.

    Me also, but mainly cos I just can’t get into this tournament.

    Ive followed England so closely and passionately through the years, and after the last year we’ve had and last 5 months of the season I cant be arsed.

    Might feel different I expect for the last group game, more riding on that, but I can’t be arsed to look up all the permutations of who can play who.

    I think that died in me in Euro 3016 when my mates were pissing themselves with Portugal drawing 3-3 I think with Iceland and meant we play them, and I recall saying we will struggle as they look like that one irritating team each tournament has.

    Wonder how that one turned out…

    We reached the semis in the WC and still everyone moans that we only played average teams.

    So we are never gonna get any respect until we beat one of the big teams, whatever the round.

    Well Southgate's had a few firsts: First ever WC penalty shootout win and first opening win at a Euros. Maybe he's the man to do it <whistle>

    Though I'm pretty sure he wouldn't get any credit even if we beat the Germans 3-0. He'd be useless for not getting nine.

    Assuming England win their group and play the runner up of group F the possible scenarios are:

    A - France win, Germany win - England play Germany
    B - Portugal win, Germany win - Portugal
    C - Draw, Germany win - France
    D - France win, Hungary win - Hungary
    E - France win, draw - Germany
    F - Portugal win, Hungary win - France or Hungary depending on GD
    G - Portugal win, draw - Germany
    H - Draw, Draw - Germany
    I - Draw, Hungary - Probably Portugal but could be Hungary

    Germany would finish above Portugal in your second scenario. The first tie-breaker is head-to-head record, not group GD.
