The antics of a minority of Blouse fans after the CC derby made the headlines here and will have done the same in much of Europe. However, recent events in several countries highlight the fact that the while the authorities and fans themselves have done a fantastic job in Britain to deal with mob violence at matches, here on the Continent things could hardly get worse. The Austrian derby between Rapid and Austria Vienna was abandoned after a violent pitch invasion by Rapid fans angry their team was losing 0-2. At the end of the Czech Cup Final the same thing happened when Sigma Olomouc thugs took it out on Mlada Boleslav fans and players. MB had just won on pens.... The Swedish derby between Malmo and Helsingborg was abandoned in the first half when a Malmo fan ran on the pitch and attacked the Helsingborg keeper. For something really scary look at YouTube footage of the Copenhagen derby early this season between Copenhagen and Brondby. Sadly, I could name many more countries and matches. Much was made of the spread of the 'English disease' in the 80s, but the English cure seems much longer arriving. Any thoughts..?
