If it looks like a European Super League; if it smells like a European Super League; if it tastes like a European Super League; if it sounds a European Super League; then it is a European Super League. Isn’t it? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56350964
Made exactly this comment elsewhere. UEFA stopped a Super League, by creating a Super League. Football is ****ed.
Interestingly on the BBC website the vast, vast majority of comments by fans are against the proposal. Makes you wonder why some Clubs are for it. I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with greed or money.
Absolutely terrible idea. I've given up with football, run by the elite for the elite. Waste of time nowadays, the PL is only interesting for the top 6-8 clubs. The rest are just trying not to get relegated. What sort of a league or rather sporting competition is that? This kind of thing just drives the knife in further and begins to twist. Football is ****ed.
Snap. Once local league starts up, I'm calling time on it. The comment of "waste of time" is absolutely bang on the money - it's really turned into an awful, pathetic spectacle. Everything that was good about it has been destroyed and the people making the decisions think that dragging it further towards elitism is a good thing.
Things are changing there's going to be power shifts over the next few years It'll be funny listening to Liverpool fans saying it's not fair when Villan and Everton turn the screw even further
They are pushing fans towards the grassroots game. That can only be a good thing. Modern football is ****. Everything that made people fall in love with the game is pretty much gone at the top level.
The world pays to watch the big 6 unfortunately that's the way its gone and the huge numbers abroad are more important than the fans of the other clubs.
Yeah its about what they can sell now. Its no longer about the game itself or the sporting aspect. Its solely about money. Chaos is right, the world want Man C vs Man U. They don't care if english football fans think the game is ****ed, they are selling to a global market. That's why I'm out, I just don't care enough. Perhaps if the players weren't complete fanny pads too it might have more hold on me.
But how can they all miss the point? If you remove competitiveness, you remove the point of the game. Then there is no game to sell.
They global market will be happy to watch a European super league that doesn't involve the clubs like ours... It'll be just like the NFL and in 100 years everyone will support one of them... They'll just market it as required... The big game...
For me if it’s not broken it doesn’t need fixed. The current premier league format is fair in my opinion. The actual paid out elements based on position is fine. The teams themselves can drive their own commercial revenue to expand more. That’s down to the individual clubs. It just so happens that some are prepared to pay for the right people to do that. We are not one of them. As far as FFP that **** IS broken. That’s how the so called big clubs have got where they are. Qualification for the Champions League currently is also broken. How this is fixed I don’t know. Modern football since the premier league began has always been about money and we back in the 90’s where just as guilty as anyone and it nearly bankrupted us. Now we are the complete opposite. The way I see it at present is it’s not broken. It just needs a few tweaks and for the ahem “corruption” to be removed.
Champions League - Should just be for the league winners. If you finish second, third or fourth, you aren't a champion. Bring back the UEFA Cup and Cup Winners Cup. Give the FA Cup some prestige. PL - now that we are out of the EU, bring back the 3 foreigner rule. Maximum of three non-British players in matchday squad. Maximum of 4 in Pl squad of 25. Reserves/ u21s etc. Maximum of one-non British player per squad. Lower leagues - Maximum of two non-British per squad. Maximum of one per matchday.
