This has been brewing a long time, suffice to say that if it has gone beyond being a blunt instrument to make UEFA accede to their demands then this could see those clubs effectively out on their own. Their fans have, on the whole, been used to winning regularly, some will find being at the bottom of this league a seriously bitter pill...

I can’t wait to be playing Barcelona, Bayern and PSG every week instead of Rotherham, Wycombe and Preston

It is a bad move for all the respective leagues, and a very selfish move for the respective breakaway clubs.

I almost hope that they do it and it spectacularly fails!

If it's a breakaway and not UEFA sanctioned they would be out on their own and the players would not be eligible to play for their countries. Whole can of worms here but the powers that be hold all the cards...

The whole concept is geared towards the armchair fan in the far East and the associated gambling markets......

Sod 'em let them bugger off, football will continue in the domestic leagues and will be far more interesting than it is at the moment...... let's see how interesting it becomes when say Liverpool play Barcelona for the 4th time in a season.....

    Love the FIFA response.

"Sure, go ahead. Oh, by the way, one small thing - no player who plays in your league will be allowed to play in a world cup.

Good luck with your league. Idiots."

A double edged sword of course. How interesting would the WC be without the top players in Europe?

I'd hope (probably naively) that most of the best players (Messi, Ronaldo et al) wouldn't want to play in any league which stops them appearing at the world cup, which I'd hope then kills the league stone dead.

Probably too optimistic and the money would talk.

Why does the article only name Arse, Scum, Liverpool and Manure? Who are the other two?

Gary Neville was very angry and emotional discussing this on Sky sports. He effectively said that he'd disown the club if they do this. A few of my mates who are Chelsea season ticket holders have said that they won't renew and won't go anymore and that they'll go and support their local non league clubs.

Sadly clubs wouldn't give a toss about fans not renewing their season tickets as they'd just sell them to day trippers with their half and half scarves....

First read it and dismissed it as nonsense...but thinking about it, where is the appeal for the top clubs to drag their squads across Europe to play the likes of Rennes, Lokomotiv Moscow, FC Midtylland, Zenit St Petersberg and FerencvĂ rosi, all of whom went out in the group stages without winning a single game. At the same time, Inter Milan and Marseilles only won one game, so shows the Champions League is still competitive.

As others have said, selfish from the big clubs, but they've been driven by money for years so no surprise there.
