So the Ukrainian entry won Eurovision!! Seriously. The song was utter garbage.

As a rule I’m not one fir Eurovision. Didn’t watch it. But had a glance this morning as I saw the Germany track last night which I thought was very good. Turns out it’s still nothing to do with music and even the public will vote for a charity case regardless of how good or bad the song is!

UK got seconds with a bang average, middle of the road song!!

The Contest has been Politically fueled for decades now Marcus.

The UK have been included in this since we invaded Iraq in about 2003, and for Brexit etc.

Our scores have been nil many times since then.

In the 70’s and 80’s, it was a credible event to watch to be fair, but now it’s utter pants.

I bet the current War torn population has given the Russians some food for thought after this result (providing it was broadcasted in there)

I would imagine that even Putin would find it difficult to bar Youtube viewing, and therefore, those who did watch it, they must be wondering why the ‘West’ is backing the Ukraine song, considering that their leader is blaming the West for all the troubles...

It's been funny watching the usual suspects sneer about 'how it proves the voting isn't political' when the top two last night were clearly very politically motivated votes.

We'll be back to nil point next year.

Eurovision is music for people who don't like music.

It's totally safe and inoffensive, like the boyfriend a mum would want their daughter to bring home.

Still, it gives minor celebrities something to talk about and keeps people off the streets.

Does that mean we’ve been forgiven for whatever we did or didn’t do?

UK has only had nil points twice - in 2003 and 2021. We have finished last in three other years in addition to the nul points finishes - 2008, 2010 and 2019. As an avid ESC watcher I can say that we have finished where we musically deserved - 2003 was, for whatever technical excuse, was sung badly off key, 2009 we finished 5th with a reasonable song but last year's song was just dreadful.

There is a pretty interesting review of our Eurovision demise since the 1990s on the BBC and I recommend everyone reads it https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-61450874

Yeah I agree with the the fact that the UK entries have been week over recent years, however, the content of the other enties have alao been sub-standard.....because although the event is taken seriously by most countries, other nations take it as a 'tongue in cheek' activity, and always have done.

That said, as Wogan once chuckled...'the Euopean annual bubblegum top of the pops concert' has always been used as a political protest-march pedastal.

He is spot on to an extent. The UK have always pumped millions of £'s into the event every year, which is why we always get to the 'Finals' with the likes of the French etc...

Our entries used to chosen by the public, through live TV BBC qualifying shows, yet we still churned out poor entries.

And you will always witness dubious voting....ie, the likes of those counties voting high for their buddy countries, eg - Cyprus/Greece...and Norway/Sweden.

This year we topped the Judge Pannel votes ....but then the public votes, obviously took the Ukraine to the winning post...

Aye, good songs have been scarce these last years and it has got to the point that I enjoy watching the voting more than watching the performances - it is a good international relations opinion poll on who likes who and who hates who

Germany for some reason get poor voting like us over the last few years, we knew Ukraine would win from the start, politics again, 400 points though ! I thought we had won it first time since 1996 I think.
