The Independent has taken down a story it ran earlier that Mansour Ojeh has resigned from the McLaren board as of July 26 and has no connection whatsoever to the team any longer. Rumour mill in overdrive but let's wait and see whether it gets verified. Apparently his health hasn't been good so may be on those grounds. Keep you posted
hmm, the fact they took it down says they've been misled other news: apparently Kimi has just released his biography
I assume the book is more of a pamphlet. Maybe 4 pages long? Can't imagine he could stretch out a story much longer.
Well there must be at least a whole chapter on the "dressing in a gorilla suit and entering a powerboat race under the name of James Hunt" incident.
Stroll snr has officially bought Force India. I think it's a safe bet where Stroll jnr may be next year...
This could end up looking pretty grim for Ocon. Would be pretty worried about keeping the drive for Spa actually.
Can’t see merc letting that happen . If lance went to F1, Ocon to Williams for the rest of the season ?
I'd be more worried for Perez! Daddy Stroll supposedly wants to form closer ties with Mercedes. Ocon is a Merc man, and they rate him pretty highly. I could see Perez fitting well at Haas, but could equally see Leclerc in the second seat there.
hmm, could be a good thing not to be team-mate with the owners son. "Sorry about that pit-stop taking 2 mins, again, Esteban, please hold position behind Lance for the rest of the race"
Lance Stroll has done zero to warrant a FI drive and it says a lot about the sport if he goes there (looks inevitable). Even scarier now of course, is that without Daddy Stroll at Williams, where on Earth are they going to find the money to survive and/or develop? Williams need a big name sponsorship deal but in this day and age is that likely? To lose Williams would be an absolute travesty. Not sure if any of you have watched their documentary on Netflix but if you haven’t, it’s well worth it (though not necessarily painting Frank Williams as the hero you would expect).
Has anyone read anything about Renault, Williams and McRenault and if they are going to allow FI to be paid the $70 million in back prize money now they have come out (or will soon) of administration? Williams the other day were saving they also want closer ties with Merc, just saying gearbox at moment but looking at other stuff!!! Seems like the thin edge of the wedge for F1, we cant just have 3 or 4 types of 'manufacturer cars' with different sponsors on, that's not F1.
There are currently rules on how much a team can buy in from elsewhere, and they're fairly restrictive. With Force India, Haas, Mercedes and Ferrari (and perhaps TR and RB) in favour of close tie-ups between teams, I wonder if there'll be a push to loosen these regulations to allow more parts to be bought in. If costs are reduced sufficiently, then the issue of customer cars/teams goes away because it'll be economical to make their own. Currently it's very hard for teams like Force India, Williams and Sauber to even keep racing, never mind compete. Alongside a cost cap/some kind of spending controls, I'd quite like to see new teams made exempt from restrictions on how many parts they can buy in, for their first 3 seasons. That gives them time to build up the design and manufacturing skills and facilities, whilst still competing and earning money.
Haas is effectively a modified 2017 Ferrari already. Williams could in theory be passed the blueprints for the 2018 Mercedes and 'update' it for 2019 independently of the Merc works team. Provided they manufacturer the required components themselves it seems to be legal.
I thought this has been tested before? I think you need to have generated the IP for the non-listed parts you produce as well? I could be spouting crap though.
Now they just need Ocon and they'll have two genuine F1 drivers. That's at least 0.5s of car improvement guaranteed.
