Club statement: Norwich City can confirm that head coach Daniel Farke has left the club with immediate effect. Daniel departs Carrow Road having overseen 208 competitive games at the helm across a four-and-a-half-year spell. He joined the club in the summer of 2017, guiding City to a 14th-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship in his opening season in England. The 2018/19 season was a memorable one, as Daniel’s side claimed the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League. After a season in the Premier League, a second Championship league title followed in the 2020/21 campaign, as City accumulated a club record 97 points, securing a return to the top-flight at the first attempt. Backroom staff members Eddie Riemer, Chris Domogalla and Christopher John have all also left the club. Sporting director Stuart Webber said: “In continuing to demand the very best for our football club, this decision was not an easy one. “I know how determined Daniel and his staff were to succeed at this level, but we feel that now is the right time for a change to give ourselves the best opportunity of retaining our Premier League status. “All at Norwich City should be forever grateful to Daniel and his staff for the significant role they have played in our journey. They helped deliver two Championship titles, many memorable moments and they all fully bought into our philosophy and what it means to be part of this football club. “Daniel and his staff will always be welcome back here. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work and wish them well for the future. “It’s important that we now look forward. We have 27 league games remaining and a long way to go in the current season. We know we have the ability within our playing squad and staff to start picking up points and climbing the league table.” The club will issue a further update on its first team staff in due course.
Source who knew about 15 mins before: "The whole board was at the game today inc. Tom Smith and a lawyer. Decision had been made prior to match. Today’s performance didn’t convince anyone post match especially with the international break. Club have someone lined up. No idea who - international break…will tell."
I’m surprised by this because it’s so decisive but also because it’s immediately after a match. Way more logical to have done it last weekend???!? Anyway, end of an era - Farke will go down as a legend of a manager for us, but we have to evolve and it’s next steps now. He will have no trouble finding another club and I reckon he’s going to be very successful. I wish him the very best.
At one point during the game the camera picked up Delia and Michael. Delia was tight-lipped, with a face like thunder. Since we were two up at the time, it did seem odd.
What a strange day. Feeling not very enthusiastic about following the game because I'd more or less given up hope, then the joy of being 2-0, the chewed fingernails of the second half, a sense of relief and wondering whether maybe Farke could turn this around, and then the sacking. I really don't know how to react.
Unless he was told before the game, to sack someone after winning seems bizzare. Seems like a bit of a shambles decision. Hopefully, they have someone worthy of replacing him. I for one will be singing his name at the next home game. In appreciation of everything he has done for us, if nothing else. Wonder who might be in line. Hope it's not Colin!
Not surprised by the dismissal but am puzzled by the timing. As others have mentioned above, you have to wonder if there is someone lined up but the new appointment was agreed in the last 2 or 3 days and kept under wraps to cause minimal disruption to the team.
Lots of people on PinkUn are putting 2+2 together following Warnock's resignation from Boro today. Please, the board couldn't be that stupid, could they?
Rumours of Wilder, who was about to sign with Boro. Would make sense. Keiran Scott is Boro DoF, so probably would have been part of the shortlisting at Norwich for potential Farke replacements. Having to move now to stop Wilder signing with Boro?
