just seen this on the BBC Real Madrid have signed left-back Ferland Mendy from Lyon in a deal worth up to £47.1m, which takes their summer spending close to £300m. I know that Citeh and one or two other Europeans clubs are being looked at but this seems to have slipped under the radar. It does seem an obscene amount of money to spend however there are clubs that may well have spent more
Which justification do you want or believe to be true. The official one is: They can spend more money because they have a bigger income and turnover. The real one is: Who cares? FFP was designed to keep the likes of Real and Barcelona in the Champions League forever and prevent ambitious wannabees ever being able to beat them. That way Sky tv money can keep going into the game for Real etc to take the lions share of those profits. It was designed to prevent the likes of Avramovic and Sheikh bin bag buying success for mediocre clubs who had no sustained history of success. The big clubs get richer and richer. That's what it was all about.
It infuriates me that clubs like ours are punished for our financial situations whilst people like this were elevated to one of the highest positions in the game; https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48673461
