A break from discussion of the virus but related. Been reading numerous predictions on how this season should be ended. Void season, not fair on teams currently in promotion places but great for teams in bottom three. Cancel now and promote on current standings, not fair on teams in relegation spots but great for those in promotion ones. So here’s my suggestion. Finish current season whenever possible, could take weeks, maybe months. Play only a half season next year, teams only playing each other once. Added advantage being fans can attend all matches and enjoy celebrations or whatever. Seems fairest to me as every promotion or relegation for both seasons would be earned on the pitch as it should be

Assuming they don’t kick a ball again until after April...

My choice would be the German suggestion. Top three from every division goes up with no relegation this year, the PL gets three extra teams, with the Euros scrapped it would mean no extra pressure on fixtures. The following 3 seasons an extra team goes down from the PL to even it back out.

Still unfair on teams in positions 7 onwards as denied a playoff chance

The major issue with this would be June contracts, players able to leave on a free and loan signings. I wonder how many teams will fold without the gate money?

I honestly think we’ll see behind closed doors games being the way forward once the hysteria dies down. Teams in the bottom three will be screaming for a void season, their players will suddenly be in self isolation, expect some dirty tactics.

With no sporting events happening for at least three weeks the media will need to find ways to keep readers and viewers interested so I’m expecting all kinds of crazy stories to be released to drum up a frenzy of discussion and debate.

My only fear is public pressure to void the season, the public being every jealous fan, every Liverpool hater, every fan who supports a team with no chance of going up and of course the Hull City fans ;)

Maybe freeze it and time permitting allow those in the occupying positions to enter a playoff phase. Teams with a heavy amount of loan players will say it’s unfair as they’ll have depleted squads.

Extending loan contracts is never a problem when clubs make playoffs. Clubs will take a huge financial hit no matter what way season is ended. Same applies to all sports. With proper support clubs and businesses will survive, it may take time and maybe bring financial reality to players wages and contracts

We should finish this current as and when
Next season should be only considered when the end of this season is in sight
All leagues EFL and Premiership should take Priority over any other competition if necessary scrap all cup competitions FA league cups euro competitions and internationals
The governing bodies need to stand up and be counted and not to lose sight of the fact that all the leagues are the grass roots of their organisations without the grass roots
People running these organisations would be out of a job (a good thing some may say)

The Times quote a "senior figure in broadcasting" as saying:

" The commercial reality for the Premier League and Uefa is that if they don’t complete their seasons then they are in breach of their broadcasting contracts. "

"You would have broadcasters from all around the world saying, ‘In that case we are not paying for the season.' For the Premier League alone you are talking around £3 billion income a year from overseas and domestic TV rights.

Sky have just announced a pay increase, with no live sport for at least a month and with people worried about their finances I’m sure Sky are going to notice a huge hit. Throw in the stock market turmoil and companies like Sky will surely put the pressure on for televised behind closed doors games over scrapping the season

What’s the chance the EFL will promote Leeds based on the balance of “Probability” ;)

I’d add that football behind closed doors will boost Sky’s takings.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8111151/Liverpool-set-given-Premier-League-title-season-ended-
Liverpool 'set to be handed the Premier League title' if season is ended now due to coronavirus crisis... with a '22-team division set up, FIVE teams relegated and EFL Cup axed' to make room for more games in 2020-
Following the postponement of the campaign, until April 3 at the very least, big questions are now being asked regarding the possibility of being unable to conclude the English football calendar.

In bold and controversial plans, five teams could be relegated from the top flight and the EFL Cup axed completely in order to facilitate football when it resumes, the Telegraph have reported.

It is reported that one proposal which may be placed on the table would be for the top two in the Championship, currently Leeds and West Brom, to be promoted and for 22 teams tocompete in next season's Premier League.

This is another option. At least we’d be promoted

They have to let it finish, even if it means going into mid June, too much at stake for far too many clubs, not just here but all over the world. They may have to start next season a week or 2 later but so what, the players will just have to do with having 4 weeks off, as to be so much better than the alternatives.

I'd rather them play the league and cancel the 2 cups, hardly any fecker takes them seriously anymore

The problem is the Karen Brady’s of the world and jealous fans calling for it to be null and void. One Sky bloke pointed out, Karen Brady doesn’t want the season extended as West Ham don’t own their ground and it’s probably booked for events in June/July, throw in they’re 4th from bottom...

The call for it to be 'null & void' is ridiculous to me. Yes if everyone had played 9 games, not with 9 to go. They've played 28 in the premier and 38 in the championship so there has been plenty of competition and you are where you are based on how good you've been. So for me, they either have to finish this season's competition and delay the start of next year, suspend the transfer window so every team finishes with the squad they had from January. If that can't be done the current positions stand. Surely it's better to say after more than 2 thirds of the season you are where you deserve to be, than reward failure and say you can stay up because 'mathematically' you could (like suddenly these clubs will find champions league type form).

Imagine calling it null and void and take just ourselves....

£7m wasted on two loan strikers
    Phillips will want PL football
    Commitment to buy Costa £15m
Would we be able to get Harrison back on loan
Bielsa signed a one year extension would he remain
Ben White would move on to a PL team

We invested on going up this season, if we don't go up it could set us back several years, we haven't the finances to do this all over again.

Replicated by many teams but also, why should Norwich & Villa benefit from another 100 million and have another go for being useless? And as for the loans etc. That's why I said if the season is suspended and restarted, no transfer window until the next season is underway. Euros is going to be cancelled, can you imagine fans travelling all over Europe for games as it's not set in one country. Stupid idea anyway but cannot be allowed in the current situation. Gives time for domestic leagues to finish.

Players and clubs are basically quarantined until April now. That should flush this virus out of the system. Then finish the season behind closed doors.
