the Italian FA wants to get their domestic leagues up and running again by the end of April <laugh>

Are they living in a bubble?
If they do this, it will contribute to a second wave of Coronavirus in Italy.
Italian fans are incapable of behaving themselves.
Even if games are declared to be behind closed doors fans will gather, and ultras will fight with each other.

Don't Italians value the wellbeing of their hospital staff as much as we value ours?
    Surely they do.

It either thinks I'm about 95, or Dushitelet is staying forever.

Surely that would mean the Italians have started training again?

    Who knows?
The Italian players have just been ticking over I expect, some training on their own and others pigging out on pizza.

This talk about the end of April is a laughable pipe-dream.
But then Italians were never the best at planning and organising.

it does make you wonder why people would pay £300m for newcastle, and wont buy charlton, one division down, in london for £40-£50m...

I hear all the Scottish Leagues below the Premiership have been declared finished now.
And at least one 'relegated' team has called in the lawyers.

Cannot see how they can lose a legal case, unless there are specific provisions in the rules for what happens if a season has to be stopped before all games are played. Good luck to them.

In my view, if your team was not mathematically relegated when the league was suspended, the authorities have no right to force you to accept relegation.
You can accept it voluntarily if you think it's for the good of football as a whole, but if you don't accept it they should not be able to force you.

The Premier League Clubs met for a video conference yesterday and decided.... nothing! <doh>

No June 30th deadline for finishing the season.
    Nothing on contract issues.
Just a vague commitment to wanting to finish the 2019-20 season, somehow, some time...

    Such leadership :emoticon-0152-heart
All they know how to do is get their snouts in the trough. When they actually have to decide something that doesn't involve how many billions it's going to make for them, they are absolutely clueless.

Here's a story the BBC forgot to broadcast on April 1st...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52387971

Oliver Dowden has said he had been having "productive talks" with governing bodies from across British sport on restarting following the coronavirus shutdown.
He said the resumption hinged on passing the government's five tests as well as meeting social distancing guidelines.
Dowden said it was also important to send out a message that was "consistent" with that being given to the public.

Football is suspended indefinitely across most of Europe because of the continued spread of Covid-19.
Discussing how sports would be broadcast if held behind closed doors, as is expected to be the case initially, he told the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee:
"I have said to the Premier League it wouldn't send the best signal if they were one of the first major sports to resume behind closed doors and the public at large couldn't have access to it."

    <laugh>

    Was Oliver Dowden born yesterday?
Or does he think we were?

Since when has the Premier League been remotely interested in "sending the best signal"?
Their product has NEVER been available free-to-air. It is a premium product available only to customers who can afford to pay to watch it.
They have nothing to gain by letting everybody with a TV set see it for free.
I should think the lawyers from BT and SKY would have something to say about it as well - certainly enough to keep it off air for a long time.

When Oliver Dowden hung up his 'phone call to the Premier League I should think they pissed themselves laughing at him.

The great unwashed will get a few minutes of highlights on MOTD and they'll be thankful for it.
(and that's only if the lawyers don't get involved).
    If the PL is feeling very generous indeed - highly doubtful - the public might get one game a week free-to-air as a special Sunday treat;
A couple of relegation battlers kicking lumps out of each other in an empty stadium.

The Government seems desperately keen to get the Premier League back up and running as soon as possible.
Dangling the prospect of free-to-air live games played behind closed doors on Saturday afternoons.

So Premier League players will be permitted (indeed required) to break social distancing rules, in order to entertain us.

Nowhere else can the 2 metre social distancing requirement be breached except in hospitals where the staff are wearing full PPE.
How can Premier League football possibly be regarded as equally essential with life-saving medical treatment?

Logically, if Premier League Clubs are going to be allowed to play football, EVERYBODY who wants to play football, including all the other leagues, non-league, and even mates up the park on a Sunday, must be allowed to play it.
And if football is acceptable, then logically so must be Rugby, Cricket... indeed every other sport.

If the Government does this, it will severely damage its message to people to keep their distance and obey the lockdown rules.
It's going to be seen as one rule for them, another rule for us.

It turns social distancing into a political whim, rather than a rule with proper scientific foundation.

Why should anybody obey the rules when privileged millionaire players are allowed to flout them?

Why should people queue at supermarkets and not be allowed to gather in parks, or go on holiday?

I hear that the Government is going to hold weekly meetings with Sporting Authorities about ways to get TV sport re-started in the UK.
Sounds like a good idea? No harm in holding meetings I suppose (by video link of course).

Pity those meetings won't be online for everybody to watch though.
I bet they'll come up with some hilarious ideas :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Arsenal players are returning to training.

I'm not happy about this. It looks like flouting the lockdown rules to me.

The rules say you should only travel to work if you absolutely CANNOT work from home.

The Club has already said that there will be no group training sessions.
So each player will be driving (some of them probably many miles) to the training ground, training alone with a coach presumably present even if two metres away, then driving home again.
I'm sorry, that is not essential.

Arsenal players all have big houses with big gardens.
They all have computers and access to video communications with their Club and their coaches.
They probably all have luxury gyms within their homes.
They can be trained from home, with a minimum of effort.

There is no need for them to get in their Bentleys or Range Rovers and drive to the training ground or the stadium, then drive home again a few hours later.
This is just an example of the Football Club pandering to the bleating of privileged, cosseted diva players.

Millionaires allowed to break the lockdown rules because they are celebrities.
    It's a f*cking disgrace in fact.

How are poor people trapped in high-rise flats with young kids, or elderly folks with no gardens supposed to feel about this shameful indulgence?
People who have followed the rules in good faith even though it has been really difficult for them.
And is this move backed by the Government?

If it is, then Arsenal Football Club and the Sports Minister should be ashamed of themselves.

How dare Government ministers come on TV and lecture us every day, then allow this blatant favouritism.

What happened to "we're all in this together"?

All this talk about the season going on beyond the end of June is pure wishful thinking in my view.

Hundreds of players will be out of contract - over a dozen at any given Club in most cases.
Are these players all going to agree to some kind of blanket commitment to play on without a contract?
    Like f*ck are they.

The end of June is only 10 weeks away.
The EFL are going to have to wake up and work out a way to call this season finished, without creating a legal explosion.
The sooner they do this the better.
Every passing day puts them under more pressure.

    Not for much longer.

    Coronavirus is a merciless killer.
But it may also bring about the end of obscene indulgences like wages at football Clubs that cannot afford it.
