It's going well for the new owners at Newcastle United I hope their fans aren't banking on a January spending spree...
I hear UEFA have cocked up the Champion's League draw The most complicated, contrived and ridiculous draw in football History. Put the balls in a bag And pull them out one by one. Learn something from the FA Cup you dopes, rather than turning the event into a two hour showbiz snore-fest.
I was going to go up to watch a Kilmarnock game with my brother in January, but we received such dire reports of the long-ball football they were playing that we decided not to bother. It appears that today's game was following the same pattern, no creativity, only the goalie kept us in the game. So the club has decided to act sooner rather than later..
FIFA still trying to plan for a W/C every 2 years- Infantino says the younger generation want it, what a pile of crap. The Ashes used to be played every 4 years, now every 2 years, they're killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
Sounds a lot like what Duchetelet said about Charlton fans who dared to stand up to him. Club owners and managers are just passing through the history of a Club. Good stewards - good owners and managers - are forever remembered and praised by fans. Bad owners and bad managers get the stick they deserve. Banning fans for opposing your philosophy is a desperate sign of a failing Club.
I used to get withdrawal symptoms when there was a summer break of 2 months, and the players would be grossly out of condition when the pre-season began. But then the cricket, the tennis and the golf would kick in and you'd get used to Saturdays without football. Now it's wall-to-wall football, every day, all day Saturday and Sunday. I'd quite happily go back to the old way, don't think Henderson would if it meant getting Tommy Smith's wages. PLayers weren't looked after too well then, give them a cortisone injection and send them out if they are carrying an injury- look at what happened to Smith's knees.
They don't know they're born. £50K a week for bang average players, and they're pampered silly. Two or three generations ago the heroes that Football has mostly forgotten would play 3 games in 4 days, on terrible pitches with a ball twice as heavy. Dixie Dean would be laughing at Liverpool's soft boys - and all the other football babies of this age.
Bearing in mind the old Division 1 had 22 teams so they had 42 league matches to play plus the cups. I imagine more teams are playing games in Europe than previously, but generally, top flight players play less than theu did 30 years ago and get a lot more money. have they considered a wage cut if they want to work less? Ora different career?
Plenty of replays in Cup games as well. Second replays at neutral grounds too if you go back far enough. Having said that, I think having a two game semi-Final for the League Cup is dull and unnecessary. Have a single game, perhaps at a neutral ground roughly the same distance from each team.
“After receiving representations from the three fans in question, an appeal committee of the club has decided to rescind the ban on the three fans and replace it with a final written warning. Should any of the behaviour be repeated again, a banning order will be issued.”
