Couldn't resist it. Sadly those days are gone . Pironi GV , Mansel, NP , Jones CR , Senna Pr . Oh well .......
Thanks for sharing- it’s really insightful. Really do wish your family all the best mate. We need the science to breakthrough don’t we and end this horrible pandemic
Red Bull have lost another engine this time on Perez car. Red Bull are going to struggle at the end of the year at no fault of their own.
Seemed like a fairly minor impact for a total engine loss. Does make you wonder if they should somehow change the rule to not include engines that have to be replaced due to a shunt. But then that's open to abuse and potentially being able to run more fresh engines than your opponents.
Has anyone seen Andreas Seidles ( sp )about Horner moaning about crash costs ? FWIW I think if an engine is damaged beyond repair through no fault of the team or relevant teams driver , there should be some leniency. I just wonder if RBR are now realising it’s ok poaching MB staff and tripling their wages , but it all comes out of the budget cap . Just wish I could find that article be Andreas . I know I have seen him quoted
It looked like a hefty shunt to the side of the car to me*. Maybe they should change the rule to get offending teams to foot up part of the repair bill you know like real life car insurance * watch it from Ricciardos on board. Its the rear of Bottas car that goes heavy into him
And then $x dollar repair turns into a $xxxxx dollar repair conveniently. We'll wind up with steward and insurance agents making calls. Ambulance chasing lawyers would be next on the cards. I just don't see how that's going to work. Damage is just part and parcel of managing the budget. Smaller teams have had to do that forever, but now it affects the big guns, it's a problem. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they can do some jiggery pokery and use some Apha Tauri budget somehow. The big issue is the engine allocation now. That does cause potential problems. Not sure how they get around that other than simply allowing an additional power unit if there are extreme circumstances involved outside of simple wear and tear.
As I said , it’s ok for billy big balls to splash the cash on poaching Merc staff and tripling their wages , but at what cost……
Difficult when every solution to engine replacement is open to abuse. I’d hate to see a situation where a desperate team manufactured a crash or put themselves in a position where another car would hit them to get free engine, not unlike a crash for cash insurance scam.
Maybe this is just showing that the engine allocation is just too small right now and needs to change again.
Now they are not allowed to change spec other than 'reliability' they could have changed rules to allow more pu but again there is a cost so it would sort of go against that. I didn't think the cost cap would make any difference for a couple of seasons but it does seem like it's squeezing a few teams.
Wonder what the cost of development vs production is for power units, and how much increasing allocation would actually hit the teams. Don't think I've ever seen figures like those.
yes I agree . 3 engines for 23 or so races is stupid . don’t increase the engines , reduce the races imho !
