Anyone think they should run the Formula 'E' races the same weekends as the F1 calendar. Maybe not the full calendar but for the key races the series is included in the day.

It would raise the profile of the formula when it starts in 2014 and would be quite interesting to see how good these cars actually are.

It would make sense as a FIA back formula. I did a little digging around on the internet and all it came up with was "street circuits". I guess it all depends on how good the cars actually are as certain F1 tracks may not be suitable for them, i.e. the hills at Spa <whistle>

As a showcase for the FIA it would get much more coverage and a higher profile if it were scheduled into a few European race weekends.

Monaco, Germany etc would be good as they are short tracks. Not sure if they'd had enough charge to get around Spa :)

Would be good if F1 drivers competed in this on their weekends off, would give them something to do, us something to watch, and raise the profile of the series.

"And that's a scintillating lap time of 2hrs 45mins and 12seconds by Driver A, he could have shaved 37seconds off that time but Driver B was actually using a shaver in sector 2s power point stop!"

Would a mass crash in Formula E be described as a Pile-up or a Pylon?

With no commentators, just the Benny Hill music playing on a loop.

I guess street circuits aim to make it more accessible to punters, and you'll more likely get people going because it's easy and convenient, but it'll certainly miss out on TV coverage. I'd like to see more coverage of this and GP2, the BBC rarely use their digital channels for example

Max Mosely can sort out the scantily clad girls to run around the circuit in a comedy zig-zag motion

An interesting contribution, East_Stand, so thanks for introducing the subject.

Formula E needs to start out in the right place. It's a simple equation: if you want to electrify an audience, first get some street cred'.
;)
It's too early to be thinking about having them alongside F1. They would risk becoming a laughing stock even before charging up and down hills – although Jonathan Legard might find himself back in a job! Joking apart, I'm sure they'd cope better with the inclines of Spa than he did with or without wings…

There are some shocking* puns in this thread.

On a serious note, I'm a firm believer that there are no bad ideas, only bad execution. If the FIA want this to work as a concept then I do believe that they could involve F1 more.

*Don't worry... there's no charge.

So many puns, I'm tempted to join in but I'm putting up a strong resistance.

LOL, I don't know why motorsport fans are so upset at the thought of electric racing. I saw the same type of comments about the electric TT race, and you know what, those bikes have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years. The latest versions of the electric bikes are pretty serious machines.

I for one welcome a new series of motor sport that pushes the boundaries to the limits and lets motor sport do what it's done in teh past, advance our knowledge of a new technology.

Here are some pictures of took of last years Isle of Man TT's electric bikes.
