Freddy Adu better than Messi? ..Pele once believed so

Whatever did happen to Freddy Adu who was once touted to be better than Messi and touted to be the greatest ever footballer?

I remember Pele really hyping this guy up big time.

Here is an article from 2004 where Pele is quoted as saying :

"His left foot is fantastic," Pele says, marveling at a precociousness that reminds him of his own. "It's like Mozart," he says. "Mozart started when he was five years old. If you are good, you are good. God gave Freddy the gift to play soccer. If he is prepared mentally and physically, nobody will stop him."
