Pompey drew 1-1 with Championship promotion hopefuls Brentford, as they continued their play-off preparations with a friendly at Griffin Park.

Marcus Harness opened the scoring for the visitors early on, but the Bees levelled from the penalty spot after the break.

There was also the bizarre sight of Blues keeper Duncan Turnbull having to go between the sticks for the Londoners because of an injury.

Kenny Jackett’s side – who were beaten by Reading the previous week – almost took the lead in the opening seconds.

Ross McCrorie got forward and sent in a dangerous delivery that was nodded over the bar by John Marquis.

Another ball into the box from the Rangers loanee did lead to the deadlock being broken on 14 minutes, with Harness arriving to head home.

Pompey came close to extending their advantage following the interval, as Andy Cannon’s effort was deflected to Ronan Curtis, whose cross flashed across the face of goal.

Instead the Bees were given a chance to level when Mads Roerslev was tripped in the area and Halil Dervisoglu sent Alex Bass the wrong way from the spot.

An injury to keeper Nathan Sheppard then saw Pompey's young American keeper 6' 7" Jordan Turnbull go in goal for Brentford and the American did well to deny Gareth Evans from close range.

It was Evans who then sent in a wide free-kick that was glanced over by Paul Downing, as Pompey’s latest test finished all square.
