Deontay Wilder has been hit with a six-month medical suspension in the aftermath of his knockout defeat by Tyson Fury in Las Vegas, another major blow to the Bronze Bomber's boxing career. The American heavyweight was unable to exact revenge on the Gypsy King for his loss in their second bout, as Fury knocked Wilder down three times on his way to victory in their trilogy fight last weekend. Wilder was immediately taken to a Nevada hospital to be checked over after the bruising encounter and he will now undergo surgery on a broken hand next week.
Stupid that it went to the 11th. A blind man could see he was being battered about in the later rounds. His own stubbornness to not let his corner throw the towel in at any cost might have led to some unnecessary brain damage. It may be a pride thing but several rounds of taking an unnecessary beating to the head could affect him for the rest of his life and his career as a boxer.
He wasn't too happy about the towel being thrown in last time around Probably had some strict orders to the rest of his team "let me go until the end", yadda yadda As you say, he was knackered after 6 rounds
He wasn’t quite getting battered to that extent. There was no point I was thinking it needs calling off.
I disagree. I remember that Fury-Chisora fight years ago and Del Boy just wasn’t competing in the latter rounds. His corner did the right thing and threw the towel in. Fighters are allowed to be disappointed but a good corner will look after their fighter’s health first and foremost. If they’re not defending properly and taking headshots, pull them out.
I didn’t pay for the fight. Finally watched it today The angles that Fury hits good shots from is incredible. Wilder was brave and one tough MF. Fury is a class above. It was enjoyable watching two gladiators fight till the end. Though this toxic masculinity needs stamping out.
If it was my shout, I'd ban boxing altogether, but I understand the reasons why it can't happen. Fighting would just go underground and become unrestricted. Also there's an awful lot of money involved, so I'd be wasting my breath looking to do that. I've said it before, though, as long as he stays fit and keeps himself together, he'll stay unbeaten.
I noticed at the end I talked about about toxic masculinity I must have been on a rant at the time haha
