Is that a quote from now, or Oct 2020, or Oct 2019? Or Oct 2022?
It's so hard to tell.
October 2022, sir!
It’s fascinating that we talk about how bad Jose Mourinho and LvG were, yet they actually managed to still win trophies in their relative short time with the team with less talented individuals.
According to the Manchester Evening News,Solskjaer is privately unhappy with the Man United hierarchy for failing to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were strongly linked with West Ham ace Declan Rice, but the Hammers stood firm on their £100million valuation as United set about preventing Ronaldo from joining Man City.
I thought Ole was completely happy with the squad at the start of the season. We have players sitting in the bench with no idea what to do with them yet we always seem to cry about what we don’t have. When Fred doesn’t play and we lose, it’s because of Fred. When we play and we lose, it is still Fred. I don’t think anyone would change with the team even if you throw Rice in. He would turn into a sht player overnight with the way this team is coached.
It is pointless right now, because it's the 'debate' we had last season, which is the one we were waiting till the end of last time. We shouldn't even be having it again, he should have been gone after the debacle of not managing to win the Europa league. Why did it not set massive clanging alarms bells with you, and Christian etc.? (It certainly did with me and Treble, for a start).
Man needs to win a EL final against decent, but not top drawer, opposition to get the never won a trophy monkey off his back so he can kick on the following season.
Waiting till the end of this season is just a season wasted, needlessly. What happens then, do we scrape top four and the whole thing resets and we try once more, ad infinitum?
Some of the stuff he is doing is just utterly baffling. In insisting on playing 4 2 3 1 it means he has to play two of Matic, McTominay and Fred, all of whom are beneath the required level. It keeps a better player out of the team for **** sake, it's just obvious.
Why can't we play 4 3 3? Anyone know?
He should just rely on and trust his defence and play one less DCM
If he absolutely has to play one, he should maybe go with McTominay, with Pogba and Bruno either side in a midfield three.
You've then got Rashford (or Martial) Ronaldo (or Cavani) and Sancho (or Greenwood) left to right as the attacking three.
How the actual **** can you not build a winning team from that?
Yet, give him time he's getting there.
No, he ****ing isn't.
Let's not forget, we're talking about being out of a title challenge after 8 games, which is what everyone on here was saying he should be judged on. No excuses was the mantra. So we're talking about a wasted season after 8 league games.
The narrative is now changing to him getting us Top 4. I'd love to know how that demonstrates any progress? And the expectations fans have if that is all that matters.
There's no way if this was anyone other than Ole he would be getting this much leeway. I think the bloke's a legend as a player, but as a manager he's simply not good enough.
Had he left after finishing 2nd and the Europa League final, he would've been respected in getting us that far. But he's peaked and now the longer he stays the more he ruins his own reputation.
Fact is that the most ardent supporter of Ole without a shadow of a doubt knows by now that he’s not up to the task even if they don’t outright come out and say it.
Also, simply buying more players is possibly the worst thing that we could do at this juncture. Waiting until the end of the season is completely counterintuitive given how everyone was excited for this squad just few weeks ago.
We’ve become a soap opera for the league.
It's incredible the agenda driven media can't wait to spin the situation. They've been waiting for things to go south to blame it on United buying Ronaldo
I've just listened to Oliver Holt (who lets face it, was sticking the boot in when Fergie was in charge) saying that United buying Ronaldo prevented us from buying a defensive midfielder The bloke's a complete idiot. He forgets that we didn't buy Ronaldo until the end of the transfer window and there was no serious mention of us even thinking about a defensive midfielder throughout the transfer window prior to that.
Everyone knew we were in for Sancho, everyone knew we were in for Varane. Apart from a few half-arsed made up rumours we were interested in Rice, which nobody remotely took seriously, there was fck all consideration being given to a DM.
And even if it was true, why would buying Ronaldo prevent us from buying a DM. It's not like we're short of a few bob
I think this is the problem for Man United. As soon as the problems start, every fckwit with a microphone or a journo card can come out with any crackpot bullshit to sell their papers. And there'll be a bunch of other fckwits willing to perpetuate it
I’ve said it many times. The press and some of the other media cannot wait to crucify the team, the players and the manager. Sure the latter could and should be gone if he fails to keep the team at the top and fails to deliver but the campaign against him has been utterly disgraceful. We keep hearing in the media that they (the same ****ing presenters and pundits especially low life and anti United Craig Burley of ESPN) condemn abuse of any kind in football. Yet what do they do at every opportunity? Abuse him constantly . When Arsenal was at the bottom, did Arteta get abused? No. All sorts of excuses were made on his behalf. Arsenal is languishing in the bottom half yet all the pundits keep licking Arteta’s xxxx. And Now ronaldo gets the treatment. He is lazy , he cannot press and rely on others to do his dirty work. He shouldn’t have been bought even at the time there was universal praise.
Even if I thought that the manager should be gone, I will refuse to join the ****ing scumbags in the press and media who call for him to be sacked after every match pretending they had the best interest of United at heart. What a joke! They revel in any United setback as they look to increase their circulation or audience.
5 more years!
As a fan of a rival team, I am more than happy for you to keep an inept manager just to spite some Scottish bell end on an american news channel.
I’m glad you think I’ve got the power to sack or keep him. But you’re right about ****ing scumbag Craig Burley. Pundits are supposed to be objective and not be personal. At least they pretend. That ****ing lowlife conducts a daily vendetta against Solskjaer as if his wife has been ****ed by the Norwegian.
Burley is a terrible pundit. Talks constant ****e.
All of the pundits on ESPN suck arse, Shaka Hislop, Craig Burley and Steve Nicol are ****ing cringeworthy. Steve Nicol is the worst though, absolute **** talking ****tard. No wonder they got a job on yank TV, cos British sports channels probably turned them away
Why do you people watch ESPN commentary? Haha. I have it on TV here and I don’t even bother. ESPN is not an expert sports network. It’s an entertainment network. They talk sht all day about all sports and to distract lazy Americans. It’s the biggest time wasting channel on TV. I like the app though. I can watch replays of sports.
Its mainly cos I get ESPN clips recommended to me on Youtube and sometimes I click them out of curiousity,
But you are right, their commentary is dreadful.
Can't say I've watched any football on ESPN, ever.
Used to watch the Tour de France on it, but I'm fairly sure even that is now Sky. Can get it on terrestrial anyway.
The normal channels of BBC, Sky and BT have been quite fair on Solskjaer to be honest, while pointing out his clear and obvious limitations.
It's like having a Twitter account and then moaning that it's just full of trolls spewing out spite.
Don't have Twitter then.
Same. I see these popping up on my YouTube home page. Simply can’t resist clicking on them and getting riled.
It's why you come on here and talk to me, int it Smithy
There is a lot of talk of Zidane in the papers. What do you all of that idea?
I personally think that he would be a good fit. He is well respected and he's got the experience to match.
Not in the Prem.
Should we limit ourselves to only picking from managers that are available?
What do you mean by not in the Premier League? Why should that be a prerequisite? Which of the current top managers in the league had experience in the League?
It is about the personality, vision and ability to execute against such vision. It has very little to do with Premier League experience in my opinion.
On the last point of who’s available, I mentioned Zidane before he left Real. I also mentioned Allegri not because he was available. Again, we need to focus on the attributes of the prospects as opposed to whether or not they are available.
