Ken Monkou was - allegedly- about as open as it was possible to be in the 90s. Which is to say, all his teammates knew which way he swung, and accepted him because they liked him. But his sexuality was still a secret, albeit an open one. No one talked about it, because the people that knew, wanted to protect him from the abuse they knew he’d get if it came out in public. Anybody who thinks homophobia is a thing of the past, is deluding themselves, frankly.
