As someone who used to be Lisbon Canary, I am obviously very happy that Portugal will not be facing Italy in a winner-takes-all game.

 

Anybody know how Daniel Barden is getting on with his cancer treatment. Obviously hope he is doing well, been four months or so since the club said anything about his progress.

 

I thought he had been back in training recently, not sure if anyone else can confirm?

 

I'm amazed Salah just continues here. Other fans doing it to the keeper too apparently. Crazy.

December update, reading between the lines would suggest treatment went well? Although the lack of an update since is less reassuring

Declan Rudd has been forced to retire at the age of 31. After several surgeries on a knee injury it seems that he has been unable to overcome the issue.

 

That's sad news. Never quite reached the heights that were expected of him early on, but a good keeper and a good person.

 

Looking increasingly likely that 1p5which will miss out on the playoffs. Oh dear!!! What a shame!!! Would have been an easy six points next season were they to be promoted.

 

I wouldn't mind them getting promoted, miss the Derby days.

Diego Maradona's shirt, worn in the 'Hand of God' match against England, has sold for £7,142,500 at auction.

Former England midfielder Steve Hodge decided to sell the jersey 36 years after he swapped it with Maradona in the tunnel at the 1986 World Cup following Argentina's controversial 2-1 victory over England in the quarter-finals.

The shirt, estimated to sell for between £4m-6m, went up for auction on April 20 and there was only one bid for £4m, the reserve price, until nine minutes before the deadline.

A late offer of £4.2m led to more bids with the historic item eventually selling for £7,142,500 making it the highest price ever paid for a shirt worn during a sports match.

I bet Hodge can't believe his luck.

Female referees will officiate matches at this year's men's World Cup for the first time in the tournament's history.

France's Stephanie Frappart, Rwanda's Salima Mukansanga and Japan's Yoshimi Yamashita have been selected to take charge of games in Qatar.

They will be supported by three female assistant referees.

Premier League referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor have also been chosen for the tournament, which begins on Monday, 21 November.

Wonder what Richard Keys and Andy Gray think of that
