Let's hope it is the first chapter!
Very well played match, and congrats to Raducanu...I'd imagine that this won't be the last time these two play for a title.
These two are the new Evert-Navratilova for the next 15 years.
I doubt what Emma has done will ever be done again - going from qualifying to champion. Just astonishing.
And so good to see two female tennis players hitting the ball with so much power without squealing, screeching or grunting.
I hope people aren't too hard on Fernandez about her antics while Emma was getting her leg treated. She's 19 and in uncharted territory. Her emotions just got the better of her.
Haha, more royalties for Neil Diamond!
Without dropping a single set! 10 opponents seen off. Wow.
The front pages of tomorrow's papers will be just superb.
Well, I think that's SPOTY sewn up.
Great result for Emma and such a good match...sometimes women’s matches are a bit one sided. Both players played so well...imagine the pressure and they both withstood it. Looking forward to watching Emma in the future.
Except for the Express and Mail who will be complaining that she wore the colours of the Romanian flag, so isn’t really British.
Leylah just made herself queen of New York City. Well said.
Anyone else hoping to win SPOTY this year can forget it.
Cool as a cucumber, feels like it is the first of many.
What an extraordinary finish to an extraordinary story. There was no luck in there though, that was just class, class tennis all around, with lashings of drama. Brilliant. I am SO pleased for her.
People who have tickets for Court no.1 for Wimbledon next year will now be devastated. She ain't playing on anything but Centre Court now.
I can’t imagine what she was thinking though!
I was wondering where our Andy Murray replacement would come from and she's very nearly English too!
