I haven't done a sales thread for a while so thought I'd do one for the two elite yearling sales this year, starting with the Goffs Orby sale this week and then again for Tattersalls October Book 1 in a few weeks time.

The Orby kicks off at 9.30am today and runs through till tomorrow evening. I've lifted the following summary, with Lots to Watch, from the daily European Bloodstock News:

CLASSIC PEDIGREES ON OFFER AT ORBY SALE

A Frankel half-sister to Classic winner Channel (Lot 50), a Zoffany full-brother to Classic winner Mother Earth (Lot 58) and a No Nay Never full-sister to this season’s dual Gr.1-winning two-year-old Blackbeard (Lot 93) are among the 511 catalogued yearlings for the Goffs Orby Sale, which will take place over the next two days at Kildare Paddocks. The sale starts at 9:30am each day and all yearlings offered will be eligible for Europe’s richest two-year-old race, the Goffs Million, over 7f at the Curragh in September 2023.

Past sale graduates include July’s Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes victrix Prosperous Voyage (Zoffany; £65,000 at the 2020 sale by Badgers Bloodstock) and the recent Gr.1 St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov (Dubawi; £110,000 by Mags O’Toole in 2020), while last year’s sale has already produced several Stakes winners, topped by Gr.2 July Stakes winner and dual Gr.1 runner-up Persian Force (Mehmas; €225,000 by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock).

Last year’s sale showed major increases on the COVID-ravaged 2020 edition, with the aggregate up by 74 per cent to more than €40m, the average up by 46 per cent to €109,090 and median by 44 per cent to €75,000. There were two seven-figure yearlings in 2021, both bought by MV Magnier, namely a €1.5m Galileo filly out of US Gr.1 winner Nickname from Baroda Stud and a €1.2m Camelot half-brother to Gr.2 winner Leo De Fury from The Castlebridge Consignment.

The latter topped the consignors by aggregate, selling 43 yearlings for a total of €5,564,000, and has a draft of 47 lots over the next two days. There are also significant consignments this week from Baroda Stud (31), Ballylinch Stud and Glenvale Stud (24), Camas Park Stud and Lynn Lodge Stud (16), Manister House Stud (15), Tally-Ho Stud and Yeomanstown Stud (14).

Eleven yearlings from the penultimate crop by Galileo are among the list of yearlings in a catalogue which also offers youngsters by all the other current top ten leading sires (by prize money) Dubawi (1), Sea The Stars (12), Frankel (5), Dark Angel (17), Kodiac (18), No Nay Never (25), Nathaniel (1), Kingman (4) and Lope De Vega (8).

First-crop stallions with catalogued yearlings include triple Gr.1 winner Advertise (9), the four-time Gr.1-winning sprinter Blue Point (15), Gr.1-winning juvenile and Classic winner Magna Grecia (15), Gr.1 Derby winner Masar (2), Classic winners Phoenix Of Spain (11) and Study Of Man (4), Gr.1-winning juvenile and sprinter Ten Sovereigns (17), triple Gr.1 winner Too Darn Hot (8) and the four-time Gr.1 winner Waldgeist (11).

There are also first-crop yearlings by dual Group winner Calyx (11), the four-time Group winners Invincible Army (5) and Inns Of Court (4), Gr.2- winning juvenile Land Force (2), the Classic-placed Gr.3 winner Le Brivido (1) and dual Group winner Soldier’s Call (2).
