Used to love subbuteo, absolutely no comparison to FIFA though. Kid's don't know how well they've got it today, which is probably one of the downsides of modern society.
We used to wear jumpers with stars on, must have been cool as fcuk as the Bay city rollers did as well, obviously supported by the biggest flares one could possibly find.
God, we used to have subbuteo leagues. Home and away fixtures. I used to love going to Fenwicks and getting a new subbuteo team maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
Just think, if the schools were a bit more savvy we could have been playing things like Top Trumps Historical Figures, Roman Empire, War of the Roses, etc, and been learning useful info instead of whether the Tortoise was heavier than a King Tiger!
at our school star jumpers were a no-no for the lads due to 'the rollers'(for the girlies only)...ben sherman shirts with feck of collars, french flares were ok for the local friday disco (nee spotify or you tube then the knaars) but it was double denim the rest of the week, even school as we must have been one of the last to be forced into uniforms. ...only time we saw stars was when a teacher gave you a tw@t for catching you smoking.
The arguments about home and away... who had the most suitable carpet to play on...my dad got me a chipboard with an edge around it to play on... definitely home advantage
St Aidans then? You're right though - terrorists wearing black! Only difference was they had a white collar
Oh our school did, got plenty of the 'ordinary' colours its what made getting a gold star so special, you knew your work was good when you got a gold star.
I have very few memories from before I was 10! 3 I can remember: One traumatic (waking from a very painful operation on a certain part of my body... and no I’m not a Jew) one of a girl I used to run around the house with naked when we were 5 or 6 (she’s very pretty now so I’ll take that! the last one is of the day I met the only person I am really close to from my childhood. My best mate who was best Mam at both of my weddings and is still the person I would call my best mate now. I have no memories of anything yo do with school!!
" Mam, mam, I've got a gold star on me jotter ".... When I tell my grandkids about the gold star and the joy of playing British Bulldog, the bottle of milk with the top pecked off and getting the strap they just give a blank look and think it's another " grandpa tale "
