Even back then they knew the Scottish league was second grade, their team badges were half the size and you got 2 on one sticker also you only got a team sticker to go with it
My lad is at infants, year 1 (aged 6), and they still get stars, reward stickers and there is a star of the week trophy in his class and across the school for a specific/outstanding achievement. They used to have a little trophy you could take home, but no longer do that bit coz of covid. He won star of the week at the school yesterday for his attitude and application, so I took him to the pub for supper to 'celebrate'. I celebrated by having my first post-lockdown pint.
My g'daughter, in reception, it was her turn to be star of the week. She had to look after Jack the Teddy bear and have some fun. We went to Croxdale Hall.
It's just an app mate where the teachers comment on stuff and award points to use in the app. The kids can create a little monster type avatar and the more points the kids get the more they can change it and other little things. Modern world and all that lol but it is a good way of being able to contact the kids teachers and they out all relevant information on there too so it's not bad.
One of my granddaughters reluctantly started school this year, at first refusing to even contemplate going. Eventually reason triumphed and to everyone's surprise she came home radiant, could not wait to go back and even wanted to live at school permanently. She has even adopted her teachers name and manners, and this has not gone unnoticed in the classroom. A lovely text a few days ago (part of the Dojo system ) from her teacher, thanked her mother for the joy she has brought into the classroom, helping her so much personally during the darker days of this Covid crisis. PS this is a different era and a much better one imo., even accounting for Covid, in so many ways from when I started school in the late 1940's when such contact would have been unthinkable. .
The grand kids have never mentioned dojos so hadn't a clue but it sounds a great idea, far too modern for an old knacker like me.
Slightly different, when I did my basic training a dead fly was found in someone's bed space. From that point on we were responsible for the welfare of the dead insect, had to make a coffin from a Swan vestas matchbox. It had to be with us at all times, each individual had at least one day of responsibility, it was inspected on inspections, it's little linen bedding had to be ironed immaculately etc. Excellent character building, it was actually quite emotional when it was finally cremated prior to pass off.
They did that in the 1960's as well we also 'wallpapered' our jotters lol. Stansfield street 1965 Roker, the one where the bus station is on bridge street 1966-8 , dame dorothy street 1968-70 i. redhouse juniors 1970-71 then to the Comp. a topic could be Should we list is what schools we to, some of might have been in the same class !.
I thought it was shìt and striker was better Mind I wasn't much into football at school. Still not a big fan except for Sunderland. Not much to get excited about there lately either ffs .
I thought it was **** as well a real man just bought a football and played, subuteo players were the equivalent to today’s players falling over all the time and rocking about, wussies
I always thought rugby was for the fat useless kids that weren't skillful enough to play football. Not sure if I'm actually allowed to say that these days
My son was 6 for the 2010 World Cup and wanted to collect the stickers, I must of spent a fortune and actually ordered the final 15 needed to complete the album. So finally in 2010 when I was 37 years old I finally achieved an impossible dream from my youth and actually completed my first ever sticker album. I've never told anyone but it's wrapped in bubble wrap in a box in the loft
Jeez, you've just brought back so much suppressed embarrassment! Couldn't afford to buy any specifically for that and my mum was addicted to flowery wallpaper!
