The anticipation begins... As a slightly O/T but still Easter food related. I've just eaten 4 Hot X Buns. Aaahhh
With marmite and cheese on them? Friday night is Chinky night for us. Tomorrow will be the second last time due to us moving. It will be sad for us and them.
We're off to the coast tomorrow for F&Cs, at the current time we're undecided as to where. Any suggestions, sensible or not, will be considered.
Molly Malones , Hessle rd very nice Downs ,Tweendykes ( fish only) East Park chippy for patty and chips
Is Molly Malones still there? I was down Hessle Road yesterday and either I missed it or it has a new name.
Would not recommend Funky Fish ex All Electric unless you take out another mortgage. £13 for fish, peas and chips twice and the staff are rude.
Yes i went last Monday. You can sit in for £4.95 for fish chips and mushy peas with pot of tea. They also give you an extra pit of tea free and extra chips free if you want. Great value.
Just watched on TV Heston Blumenthal's " In Search of Perfection for the Best Fish and Chips". We don't have any Turbot or Arran Victory/ Maris Piper spuds here in Aus but will have a bash with the nearest Aus equivalents over the weekend. The beer/vodka batter looks interesting. Anyone tried Blumenthal's dish/recipe?
It's opposite that small shopping area just before you get to asda from town way, She use to have a chippy down walliker street, she had a window at the front where you could get your chippy, and a bowl of sliced onions in vinegar to help yourself, even if you just got a bag o chips you could still Have the onions, ****ing lovely , cracking patties there...
Not every one likes it but we have always had good Cod and chips at papa's .. Back in UK for Easter so we booked a table for tomorrow. Used to go to Harry Jacksons on Rosemead Street Amazing stuff from there.
If you ever go to Whitby Hadley's just over the bridge is usually as good as Magpie cafe. Cheaper too. http://www.hadleysfishandchips.co.uk/
We cook our own at home so off to Simpsons on Ezzel Rerd this aft to get some of their lovely haddock, miles better than the greasy stuff most F&C places sell although having said that we do go to Frydays in Anlaby two or three times a year!
Narrow it down a bit fatty. Which coast? Is it still open? I heard it shut years ago. He dies quite awhile ago. Not been up there for years.
Best fish and chips in Brid and £4 too , a big sized portion of skinned and boned fish, their other stuff like sausages and fish cash are excellent, they also have a sit in section.... from the tesco/train station take the road towards the harbour (not the road where the level crossing is) , turn left and it's just on the left.
A friend of mine swears by Hadleys. One of the servers in my local, excellent chippy, is from Whitby and rates Hadley's above Magpie and everywhere else in Whitby. Enjoyed Magpie but am going to try Hadleys next time I go to Whitby.
The Magpie's gone downhill (according to my missus), Trenchers does great fish and chips, but it's a bit like sitting in a McDonalds.
I think so, I've been going there for over 20 years but never looked at the sign on the door, it's literally 2 minutes walk from the station, is that the one? It pisses over anything in Hull.
Trenchers, in my opinion, are over priced and only just above average. Magpie is still better both for value and quality. All personal opinion of course. My mother in law, who is a fussy sod, prefers Trenchers. My mate who goes to Whitby a lot agrees with me.
