I used to go to Smithy's when I lived in a student house near there. Think Chazz had some bad hygiene related stories about it. I always liked it though.
I went about 25 years ago occasionally as they did cheese and onion patties, which was unusual back then. Some of the boys at work say there is a chinese that does great patties. Can't remember the name, but they called it Sam's. Has curry powder in the batter or something outlandish like that.
It seems that I can't win. I try to be cultured and eat fish on the bone freshly caught same day with rice not chips. ... Please be aware 6 people had attacked this dish. Although I must agree it does look like a war zone.
Not a bad portion size although a bit OTT on the salad. What did everybody else have? 7Up? Where's the Dandilion & Burdoch?
It's reassuring to note that, whatever the culture, the lovingly prepared, plain green salad is dutifully ignored.
I never said you did. Pass it along to your mam and dad. Also tell em they shoulda smacked you more as a kid.
Went in Smithys. Today. Lot more hygienic than the last time but that was twenty years ago. Supposed to be the best patties in Hull. It was ok. Nowt startling just ok. But!!! They do corned beef pattys!! And cheese and onion and also chili con carne pattys!! I'm going to have to give them a try.
Yeah, me too. They've done cheese and onion for decades but the idea of a corned beef hash patty is worth the journey.
Fridays in Anlaby is my local (well when I'm in Hull), I'll be going there in two weeks when I come visit.
My mate Wiggy in Cott does a Fish Pie Pattie which I think has a bit of salmon, haddock, mussels and prawns in it. Some say it's not bad but it's not my cup of tea at all,
Off to The Frying Farmer at Albrough tomorrow. Not had fish and chips for about a month, some giant haddock is gonna get battered tomoz.
I thought that was a gravy boat. Thanks for putting me right there Den would have hated to pour tea on my haddock.
I'm sure Harpers in Wetwang used to do fish patties and corned beef patties, I seem to remember not liking the corned beef one (the corner beef was all mushy).
