Italy's Serie B to Trial 'Green Cards' for Sporting Behaviour

The Italian FA are to introduce "green cards" to acknowledge sporting behaviour in an attempt to cut down on unsporting acts such as diving and other forms of cheating.

The scheme will be brought into Serie B, Italy's second division, and will see the cards brandished to players who exhibit favourable behaviour such as kicking the ball out of play when an opponent is injured and admitting when they have benefited from an inaccurate decision.

Though players and teams will receive no on-pitch advantage for receiving a green card, their names will be noted and a list compiled at the end of the season to recognise the most sporting players and teams.

IMO this is a great idea and would like to bring it to all football games. Would definitely make the player think twice about cheating! I would just call it the pulis card instead though.

Why don't they just do like in rugby if you get a yellow card have 10 mons cooling off period at least then it is an advantage to the opposition then. So will make players think a bit more about cynical fouls

Waste of time. Referees need help as it is making the decisions that really count without giving them more to think about.

    Pointless - literally.
I just can't see how a player will decide not to dive for a penalty that could win his team the match just because he'll get patted on the back at the end of the season.
They just need to make diving and feigning injury an instant red card offence.
Shearer jokingly said on MOTD that the Behrami sending off on Saturday was worth 2 red cards. However if you look at what happened, Behrami stamped his foot into Ayew - blatant red card. He also then rolled around pretending he was hurt himself - that should be an extended ban in my eyes. 2 offences - 2 punishments.

Agree with all the above, totally pointless. The only area it might have an effect is the kicking the ball out "sportingly"... when a player is more often than not feigning/exaggerating injury anyway and the ball should NOT be kicked out!

Anything that will improve sporting behavior is a good thing, I will never support cheating in any form....
