Highlight of the game was the lino telling an Enfield player to f*** off, right next to me. The geezer went ballistic offering him out, he was substituted immediately.
Saturday 2nd October Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North Holyport 3-4 CB Hounslow United Holyport are the team in red with green shorts (clue is on the programme cover!) Admission (concession) ... £3 Badge ... £3.50 Programme ... £1 Coffee x 2 ... £2.40 Total spend ... £9.90 Looks like it was a cloudy old day (like most of the rest of October...) Real old-school facilities there. Proper non-league. Was the ref wearing black like the linesmen? Bit too similar to Hounslow's kit I would have thought...
Never even heard of Holyport. Given they were playing Hounslow, I'd have assumed they were somewhere near west London, but looking at the picture, that could be anywhere from Bath to Lincoln. How do you find these games?
They are based in Maidenhead Kenneth. I just plough through the leagues, I looked at what fixtures were on in the Combined Counties, saw that I had not ticked Holyport and went from there.
Yesterday I attended Long Eaton United 3 Newark 0. My eldest lives in the town and attends Nottingham Trent uni, so I took the opportunity for a hop. Nice little ground, friendly folk, excellent coffee, and a decent programme. Total outlay came to £11 and that included a ticket for the half-time raffle (no, I didn't win the wine and chocs). All in all, a fine afternoon in Derbyshire.
I think I have some travels pics that need downloading (not of the game Ponders was at - I don't stalk him)

First of all, many to our wonderful Moderator. The best we have had by far. A beautiful little market town just outside of Stansted was visited today, full of quirky little shops, plenty of cafes, a hive of activity in this lovely place.
I had for a long time wanted to tick this fantastic little ground. By Essex League standards this is the Wembley of this division. As you'll see from my David Bailey'esque pics it is full of different stands oozing with character. The game was exciting. Saffron Walden controlled the game(unlike the referee), and 'finished' the game 3-1 winners. However, whilst talking to my chum about which pub to visit after, our conversation was interrupted by both benches and ALL outfield players running towards the stand. The Saffron manager had been sent off, and whilst walking towards the tunnel his left back was sin binned, both met towards the tunnel area, then bedlem, somebody from the stand, seeming a Kirkley fan, said something which ended up with players going into the stand and around 20 supporters having a dose of handbags. This resulted in the ref frantically signalling the end of the game, followed by him bowing his whistle three minutes later. As we walked out the ground a police car turned up. We then retired back to the boozer to calm down from the excitement. Who says non-league football is boring
So did the result stand Elfs? I guess this could be looked up online. It's good to see passion at non-league level, but you can have too much of a good thing...
