Titanic before launch and at launch. Hard to comprehend the actual size of this leviathan, it must've been truly horrifying to have been aboard her that fateful night !
It's the one out of all of them that is the one that fascinates and angers me the most, ever since I watched Scott Of The Antarctic when I was young with John Mills in the title role. Not just the fact that they were so close to making it back but the fact that Amundsen did a sneaky and switched from the Arctic at the last moment. Scott's expedition was a scientific one originally but Amundsen's actions forced it into a race, one which Scott's expedition was ill prepared for. Ultimately the decision to stay with machinery over dogs cost them not only getting to the South Pole first but also their lives !
