Anyone thinking of cancelling a holiday abroad this year? We are booked to go to Spain in August, paid a grand for flights through Jet2 which it looks like we will lose If we cancel. We really do not think it wise to go abroad this year, for many reasons. We have only paid a deposit on lodgings. Anyone in a similar position?
I had exactly the same dilemma. last week though I cancelled my hotel In Turkey and it only cost me the low deposit of £40 with Travel Republic. I also rang Tui who were great and let me switch to next year my fights for no admin fee but the flights next year were more expensive as they were Sat flights. they were really good to be fair and now we have our holiday for next year sorted. I have a week at the end of Sept to Turkey on my own with jet2 as a package so am hopeful things will have improved by then. jet2 are really decent overall mate and I’ve had no bother when my first 3 holidays with them of the year were cancelled.
Not me. Usually do go abroad for summer fortnight holidays but decided against it as doubted it would be safe. Also didn't think holidays would be allowed so soon so was persuaded by wife to build garden/summer/house/shed with money instead. So couldn’t go now anyway even if I wanted to.
Nice one Chippy. I am hoping that Jet2 will allow us to move our flights to next year, with an admin charge of course. Regarding actually going on holiday, I think having weighed up the pros and cons, you'd have to be bonkers going at the moment. We aren't that desperate.
Trying to reschedule Majorca, but OnTheBeqch are ****ing abysmal. Had to block them by actually calling my bank to stop them taking the money so I’m about £400 down so far. I’m trying to just put it back a year but they’re obviously in a ruinous state as they’re desperately avoiding any contact.
Fecking tossers. I think going forward we will only book at the last moment, we seem to be at the mercy of unscrupulous companies.
We are also booked for Berlin in October and New York in November. I've no idea if we will make it to either.
We cancelled a holiday in March in the Lakes with Park Dean. At least they let us move it to next year.
Trying to get my money back through the bank but they are hopeless, had to fill in a form online then they just emailed me saying they needed extra details (all of which I gave them in the first place), now I have to wait up to 45 days. But don't have much hope to be honest
I think November should be okay mate. I have a UAE-Oman-Qatar trip then and all the signs are looking positive at both ends right now.
I don’t think I have ever booked a holiday far enough ahead to have the need to cancel it. Also never book package holidays - always flights, hotels and any entertainment/trips etc all booked separately. Flights are easier at the moment as all proper airlines are offering free refunds are reschedules. Biggest issue with holidays is countries imposing quarantine/self isolation restrictions to overseas arrivals. Will probably just come back to UK and have a week in the Lakes and a week in Cornwall once they drop the quarantine rule.
I'll be still going to France. In laws have a cottage there so for us it's literally a drive and ferry. Jobs a good un
Update: Our flight has been cancelled by the airline and we've used the money to book a week in Malta next year.
