I read somewhere that Ross brawn has assigned a team of ex f1 engineers to design a car with the 2021 rules and see what loop holes they come up with.
And the engineers tell the truth before hawking all the loopholes to the team that pays them the highest............
Even better is a comment in autosport associated with that article that read please log in to view this image TAFKABPD@BritPackDrivers Sep 13 Replying to @glenn_autosport I got published earlier this year in your fine mag. I'd found editions of Autosport while sorting through saying just this from 73, 74, 79, 82, 84, etc. Maybe we all need to accept F1 for what it is? Hasn't stopped us all enjoying it, after all.
It has been a perennial problem pretty much since areo became a factor properly in the early 70's, yet a lot of people talk like it's only a new problem for F1. Before then you'd still have certain teams/drivers dominating so poor racing for the win still at times. I think the world of tv just expects to be entertained 100% all the time. Anything less and everyone panics.
Yeah you can't really make Russia and France any worse, but why do it to Spa? Why do it randomly anywhere?
I don't mind this version tbh, reverse championship placing grid for the qualifying race to see who starts the real thing where. It will mix up the grid a bit, we'll get plenty of action and it won't be gimmicky like DRS is. It's also pretty much what we would love to see, a utopian form of F1 racing; no fuel saving, no tyre wear management, just 20 F1 cars going flat-out racing from lights to flag.
Put simply, it will sort the men out from the boys but can only work to best effect on tracks where you can overtake, I don't think you can therefore do this at every circuit. As an experiment it will be interesting. Introduces a whole new dynamic in a close championship. Would you be better to settle for second (or behind whoever your main opponent is) in the championship before a reverse grid qualifying to be in front of your main opponent for the qualifying race. It certainly puts a lot more emphasis on the driver. What happens when you are an innocent victim in a crash. Maybe it is a deliberate crash, who knows. Think I am talking myself into it is a bad idea for the teams, great for spectators if you don't care who wins but just want to see the racing.
