To have the run of results we have had in the championship over the last 30 odd games, to finally switch formation and get a reaction and result Like we did , would have to be a ****ing idiot to change it straight back .
If selected, Tom will do what he did in the last 2 games he played. Sit in front of the back 4 in possession and drop back in to make a 5 without the ball.
I'd just play our best team. It'd be mental to have loads of good players on the bench, and have a backup centre back starting just so that we can play the magic formation.
I'm looking forward to this one, it should be a good measure of whether we are improving, and getting the likes of Honeyman and Huddlestone back, will make the difference in reasonable performances turning into positive results.
Really surprised by the Eaves comments , he put himself about a lot more than Magennis does , won headers bothered Samba and missed a chance , what actually do you want from a forward . He gets constantly held and fouled and gives it back . I accept he’s not a good goal scorer but he played a good part in that team and was equal to others on the day .
I don't know why people are bothering, we all know what's going to happen. Campbell is going to score the winner in the dying minutes of the game, we're kidding ourselves if we think anything else.
Magennis has been poor this season so I'm not making a case for him. With Eaves last game it just bothered my how many times he really obviously fouled a defender after closing them down, it's his party piece but he did it about 5 times that game, and one two occasions we'd intercepted the ball but it was brought back for Eaves' stupid fouls. He had a good first 5 minutes with a couple of interceptions, but the rest of his game was dominated by fouls and that one chance he had when he embarrassingly blasted it into the stand without even directing it vaguely toward the goal. We won the game and it was great, so I didn't want to focus on it too much, I was just surprised to see someone wanting him to start but Tyler Smith dropped. In terms of what I want from a striker, Smith is the best example we've got at the moment. I'd be playing him as much as possible.
Funny old game isn’t it. I thought Eaves was central to our forward game for the whole 90 minutes and really toned down the fouls aimed at establishing himself in the minds of defenders, while Tyler S was a peripheral figure!
Its far from straight forward though as we have to figure out who becomes the 3rd CB. McLoughlin looked pretty unconvincing against Boro, he lost his man a few times and they should have scored. I'd go with Tom, but I think it's the easier decision to revert to a 433.
I think Smith always looks dangerous, he wasn't great against Boro but he normally offers a very different outlet. He does seem to change a game from the bench too. Wilks and KLP will both start, they have to and with Elder back I'd assume he goes to either LB or LWB so it's definitely a tricky one
It'll be tough getting anything out of this. Despite a decent performance v M'boro we're still 4th bottom, they're 7th top and we're all fearful of what team Terry might put out.
