Something will reopen when fans are allowed back in the stadium, I imagine.

It always puzzled me how the one on the other side was always closing down when it would surely make enough money with football and rugby.

Yes George and Parkers, probably the only 2 local businesses that could also make a killing during Hull Fair week.

Think George lost its business when that lad was killed there a few years ago.

Shame if it has. Liked that row of shops, used to be the old chicken shop along from it

Mystery surrounds closure of popular city centre shop

    The shutters are pulled down
    Dan Kemp
A Hull fruit and veg shop that has been a cornerstone of city centre shopping for more than half a century appears to have closed its doors.

Alan's Fruiterers in South Street is well known to many in Hull for the colourful advertisement above its door but it is now being suggested that its years of service to customers has come to an end.

The iconic green frontage complete with "5 portions a day, fruit or veg, stay the healthy way" signage had its shutters pulled down on Monday afternoon amid reports that it has been closed recently.

The shop had been open for what is believed to be 53 years before its suggested fate was decided.

It has been a linchpin of life in South Street for more than five decades, attracting customers who also used more recent additions, including Stack It High Sell It Cheap and Stuff.

Alan's became well known for its displays of fresh fruit and vegetables in front of the shop window.

Everything from punnets of grapes and strawberries to lemons and limes brightened up where the pavement met the shop front while its iconic orange canopy shielded them from the sun.

However, it is understood that one of Hull's oldest stores has sold its last fresh produce.

Yeah, Chicken 'n' Pie shop was decent for a while when it opened. Went downhill a bit later on after it got a popular and they shoved the prices up.

It seems P&O are about to scrap the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry service.

In the spring time one of the boats was in for re-ferb so only running alternate days, when covid came along they parked the other boat and were only running Hull to Rotterdam. Not sure what they were doing during the summer.

I love these..... totally embracing the local culture.
They do a similar thing in Liverpool.
