My only comment on Marshall Aid. 'And how much money was given for these place to restore their cities from Marshall aid and the likes compared to Hull?' Incorrect? I was asking a question not stating a fact, and I know GB got the biggest payout from Marshall Aid, but where it all went I haven't a clue, it certainly wasn't spent in Hull.
Not really public realm post but don't know where Hoviss thread is. I've noticed them breaking up old foundation of the old Rank Mill. Anything due to commence.... OLM ????
Contractors came back and finished clearing the site and they've been digging up the site for a couple of weeks now, but nobody seems to know what's going on. The planning permission has expired now, so they'll have to apply again before they can build anything.

From those pics you can really see just how tinpot this new venue is going to be. Can't wait for Will Young belting out the long and winding road on opening night.
Yeah and we might finally get the 12,000 capacity venue Hull needs in 70 years when we're all in the bone yard.
We've had all this before, we couldn't fill a 12,000 capacity venue often enough, that's why all the arenas that size are in major cities. The venue will be roughly the same size as the O2's in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham, which is the circuit we need to be on. It's pig ugly and it's costing too much, but it looks brilliant inside and this city needs a decent music venue.
In who's opinion? i think we could, people travel to see the big bands, i thought the whole point of things like is to draw people into the city, i travelled to see Kings of Leon in Glasgow in February because the other venues were sold out, i didn't care where i went i was going to see them come hell or high water. We're basically catering for the population of Hull with this naff venue, and putting on second tier talent. Sod putting the major bands on and bringing thousands of visitors into the city, the local economy doesn't need their stinking money anyway.
In the opinion of the experts who advised the council and the (very good) operator who's going to manage the venue. There's already Arenas in Leeds and Sheffield, with far bigger catchments, we didn't have a prayer of competing with either. It's simply common sense.
I walk past it everyday and I wouldn't describe it as tinpot. It's a very large structure and it will be great.
The fountains have been dug up, apparently there's an issue with them and the launch had been put back until May (same with the mirror pools at Trinity Square)... please log in to view this image
We are witnessing the most radical transformation of the city of Hull in my lifetime, both online and in a physical capacity, and of course such an undertaking is not going to go without its glitches. But I can't remember the last time the city seemed to be as buzzing as it is at the moment, and I, on a personal lever, is ecstatic, I have come conditioned to the **** thrown at the City of Hull, both from within and outside of the boundaries of the city itself. For once the city of Hull have a positive buzz, the city centre has been transformed, and even I have been critical of the way things have been organised, but now it looks superb and the people responsible for the promotion of the C.O.C. 2017 have surpassed my expectations. So what I am trying to say is that after a lifetime of defending the city of my birth, and I hope my death, we are on the up in the perception of the general public. I don't believe for one moment that this event, which last for a year, will be a panacea for the total regeneration of this area, but if it raises the profile of this are one iota then that is progress, but it will have to continue well beyond 2017 to get over the underlying perpetual downgrade of this area In general, Hull has to capitalise on this in a big way but are our people in high place up to the task?
