Sounds like a few players got a run out in decent heat without injuries. Could have won it if we were a little more clinical.
In the grand scheme of things, pre-season results don't matter. Though losing all your pre-seasons isn't a great way to go into a season.
One of our best pre-reasons was under Hateley. Then we went to Mansfield for the first game of the season...
No shame in losing against a top, top Oxford City line-up. Undoubtedly one of the strongest sides in European third tiers last season. All that's really important in preseason games is that our new signings get used to one another and those coming back from injury start to build up match fitness. Win, win, there then. A useful runout. Slutsky will have learned a lot about the core of his squad. Who stands up to be counted when the chips are down. Who can adapt to cover for non-familiar positions (only necessary in an absolute emergency of course!) He'll also have seen who's not good enough for this squad, who runs down blind alleys and never picks the correct pass. Who can't keep onside. Who has sticks of butter for fingers. I'm guessing they'll all be out the door on Monday, to make way for some quality incoming! How anyone views the current situation anything other than positively is beyond me. It really is. The future starts right here and it's orange(ish)!
Struth, getting beat by Oxford United is one thing but if it really was Oxford City we've got problems.
The man from the Oxford Mail must have odd eyesight to spot the directors box in this ground. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
