We really didn't. And I can only think of one real sitter (Longman's 1:1). We had a few half chances and decent positions etc but they're not sitters. Jones's miss and Tufan's are hardly sitters when there's a keeper and half their side in front of you.
Not sure Longman's was a sitter given the pace and closeness of the keeper. Tufan's was harder, but I fancied him more to score
Goalie was going down - a little dink and it’s in- he hit it two feet off the floor too easy for the keeper .
Think Rosie is working on stats that say 1. Keep the ball longer than the opposition you should win 2. Should get more goal scoring chances because of that 3. You get attacked less - so less pressure 4. You tire the opposition out as they chase you around 5. Later in the game concentration lowers so spaces open up for you So you teach your players to play ‘safe’ keep the ball regardless BUT! This is championship football where low scores seem to be acceptable because very few teams have ‘ extra’ quality to do more , most players have equal ability so like the Blunts you muscle teams out of it , you have a few players who can leg it on a counter so you’re happy to let us have the ball . IMHO You must adapt your style for each opposition before or during the game - We Don’t !!
He had to slide to get to it before the keeper. His only other option was to try (whilst sliding) to dink it over the keepers legs and risk putting it wide or over the bar. Dead easy in slow motion, not so easy in real time. He did, at least, hit the target and give the keeper a save to make - the only one in the game. I would have played him wide with Allahyar up the middle or at least alternating.
To be fair, if you pass to a defender a couple of yards away, you're going to get a 100% completion rate, compared to someone who hoofs the ball upfield when it's never going to be 100%
I’m not going to blame longman for missing one chance Create more chances we will score some of them not all We just don’t create enough
I think we almost did create good chances, but it takes so long to get the ball there that by the time we're putting that final ball in, they're all set up and ready for it. It then either takes something special in terms of the delivery, or we need someone who can create space for themselves in the box, which we just didn't have on the day. Also doesn't help that a lot of our balls into the box are bab and the receivers rarely take that gamble and run on goal when they know its coming in.
I dunno man. I think ally has made a decent run between the defenders and there's quite a big area where you could put a low cross in that he'd be favourite to get on the end of. Surely that's the option to go with there.
I don't hold it against him particularly, it's just not his game. A natural striker would've dinked it or maybe rounded the keeper, he just put it safely on target which is about what I'd expect from a winger who's not particularly a goalscorer and who has been drained of his confidence by this season.
our front three on saturday longman - 68 championship games - 6 goals 5 assists allahyar - 24 championship games - 1 goal 1 assist malcolm - 24 championship games - 1 goal 2 assists so it's hardly a hugely experienced trio nor prolific make of it what you will
Results are relevant at this time of the season. If we are on a high with a run of good results it will make a difference to the standard of players we can attract in the summer transfer market.
Then why is the manager picking an inexperienced trio that’s never done it or shown any sign of doing so?
