Except with Covid, "thousands" was understating it somewhat, so long as you're ok though that's all that matters!

It wasn't, they've come to that decision on their own.

Why would the teaching unions be telling specific schools to tell children not to do things? The unions don't tell us what to teach or say, they're just there if we need external support or guidance.

    It isn't flu at all.

"Thousands of people die a year from flu" - this won't change, but you now have over 100,000 people dying of Covid in the space of a year on top of that. Covid doesn't replace the flu deaths, just like having heart disease won't stop you getting bowel cancer.

People dying tends to be a pretty good reason to shut the country down.

My plans to go to Huddersfield were scuppered when junior decided to go to a party in London instead, so I planned to go the fair with my grandson at lunchtime on Saturday and still get back in time to watch the game. But my son in law is playing golf and can't go until 2.00pm, so I've got to decide between my grandson's first fair visit and watching the game. It seems it won't be watching the game.

Its not about me. What about the thousands who died from depression and loneliness at the end of their lives . Saving them from covid was amazing wasnt it. Also there are thousands of cancer patients without treatment. I realise this is a very emotive subject. But i think more damage was done that was at all reasonable

According to figures from the countries undertakers. The amount of deaths in the last two years hasnt increased. Why would they say that if it wasnt true

I’m not sure what the word “think” is doing in that last sentence. I see no evidence.

It isn't true, the number of UK registered deaths in 2020 was 100,000 up on the previous 20 year average (which is just over 500,000 a year), so almost a 20% increase, almost all of which was down to COVID deaths. The highest year for deaths in the past thirty years, ahead of last year was 564,846 in 1990, last year is was 608,002.

While you are there, dig out estimates of how many people would have died if no action was taken by government and hospitals were even more swamped by covid patients than they were in 2020. That would challenge your crazy assertions about what would have been avoided if we didn’t lock down.

Whether undertakers dealt with more might be different to the number of deaths.

My understanding is that some stopped collecting covid deaths and other deaths as there wasn't any follow up funerals to be arranged for them due to restrictions

We were in lockdown last year, so I imagine road traffic incidents were down.
But even so: “Figures registered by Dec. 5 show there were 43,987 more deaths between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30 in England than the five-year average”

Reading this thread, and the things people can pick up at Fair makes me realise that it's nothing like I remember it as kid. All we got was a goldfish and some Brandy Snap. Kids don't know they're born these days.
