If England are to have any major footballing success, then we need to drop this attitude of writing off anyone who dares to sport the 3 lions on their chest for no reason other than they're English.

We've blamed FIFA, the managers, the youth coaches, the clubs, any player who has the audacity to be human, the style of football, but we all seem to be looking at only what we want England to be lacking in.

We constantly bang on about how our football is "negative" and "unattractive", but that isn't from any lack of skill.

Everything and everyone involved in the England football team since 2008 has been the subject of verbal/written abuse, jokes, put-downs and sneers from know-it-all pundits and fans. This plants into the mind of every up-and-coming youngster the thoughts that England will never be successful. Wasn't it Graham Taylor who described the job of England manager as "impossible" and "a poisoned chalice"? Hardly good advertising when trying to get youngsters motivated.

We look at teams like Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil, even Holland as teams that we will never beat, and that is where we are going wrong. That is why we sit too deep and lose possession so easily. It's because we're scared of actually playing the football that we know we can play. If you go into a game thinking that you are going to lose, you are going to lose.

I refuse to believe that England has no ability or that our style of play is fundamentally flawed. If that were the case, we would not have games like this...

    ...or this...

...floating around in our archives. This is proof that England can play good, positive attacking football and get the results to show it. I know these are old games now but if these guys could do it, then why can't the current crop?

It's not ability that England lacks. It's confidence. Looking at how the public treats them, they can hardly be blamed for doubting themselves.

Shut up SixFootFive, you have no idea what you're talking about.

We are LUCKY, and ALMIGHTILY lucky that in Europe, we have a SEED system and grouping system whereby we never have to meet the higher seeds in early group stage competitions and get to qualify for the World Cup without ever having to meet the giants of Europe, UNLIKE in South America where there is ONE TABLE and one table only and they all have to play against each other and only the top 4 qualify.

Confidence? Bollix to that, mate. We have no skill. No pace. No imagination. Did you even see the way the Ukrainians FLOATED past us down the wings, twirled around us in the midfield with their lovely turn and spin skills, and dinked past us with lovely nutmegs - all of which we do not have.

We are lucky that we get to play the minnows of Europe most of the time when we are, for whatever reason, seeded quite high by FIFA, and qualify without too much trouble. Just imagine if we had to play the giants of Europe in these initial qualifying stages. We'd never get there. We have been getting by with some brute-force style of play as we have always done, and have scraped by chance, but obviously when it counts we can't finish because we simply do not have the skill to get it done - that much is obvious, seeing our last 40 years of footballing "success" around the world.

Don't make me laugh. If you can't stand the MEDIA, SWITCH IT OFF. You never have to read the papers, listen to the commentators or watch any analysis. NEVER. You might find that you're just getting annoyed for no reason other than that you don't like to hear the pundits say what they have to say. IGNORE them, don't be such a sissy.

Oh yeah the fans and the media are to blame...... <doh>
The fact that the players on the field just aren't world-class players doesn't mean anything to you? The fact that for some crazy reason the English players don't want to go play in other countries to develop their skill and experience some other culture than their own? So what if they keep advertising the PL as the best league in the world - that's thanks to all the foreign players in it!!!!

If the England team were so bad why would FIFA have them ranked at number 3, from the 5th September list?

I feel the journalists are a big problem, didn't one say recently that after the win in Moldova England were good enough to win the World Cup; of course they are good enough, but we need to be realistic and add "but it's unlikely". On the right day with the right opposition anything is possible. Graham Taylor's poison chalice comment was correct, and until the journalists let the England management get on and do their jobs and pick who they want rather than their required Manchester/Liverpool/London based players and a token gesture to Norwich, Stoke or whoever then we might start to get somewhere.

Perhaps I am still naive enough to believe England should win in England, or at least make the effort to look like they are trying to win. I do get disheartened by a team that look like they are going through the motions, and recently that is all England look like they have been doing.

They are technically crap and are athletes as opposed to footballers , that is the difference , whilst we have shaped minds through music , fashion , politics and art , our footballers representing the National side have been embarrassing to say the least , lack of basic footballing ability and passion as an example .

England ranked 3rd best by Fifa that say's it all so according to Fifa England are better than France, Holland, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, sorry Fifa but only would struggle to be a top five team in Europe let alone the world. The so called Golden Generation won nothing so why do any of them still represent their country, the current squad is littered with failures on the international scene. If only we would learn our lesson and stop living in the past (66 and all that) time to move on and give hungry youthful players a change to shine. Alright we might struggle at first but with a little patience and good home grown coaching we can be better.
