I know we really shouldn't care - but will Rickie get any game time at 'Pool?

Have never posted a thread before - so this is a bit exciting (I'm easily excited these days .....)

It seems to me that with Liverpool splashing the cash and buying up everyone available, our man Rickie is highly unlikely to get any game time there

Now, I know we shouldn't really care, but it pains me to see such talent wasted - how do you think he feels now? Does it bother you?

    Just wondered! :)

Depends on why Rodgers bought him. Looks as if Suarez was always going so maybe he will get a fair few starts. Shows what a legend he is that I really want him to do well.

I've moved on mate. While Rickie Lambert the ex Saint will always be a Southampton legend, Rickie Lambert the Liverpool player is Rickie who?

Edit; but if he gets on at St Marys I'll be happy to applaud him.

Yeah, I agree, lamballana - I want him to do well too, but I'm beginning to think he is likely to regret going, as he will hardly feature. A great shame for such a legend. Hopefully, they'll loan him back to us and he can coach the academy strikers in his retirement!

Wonder if its possible for us to have him back on a season long loan?
Love Rickie to bits but I think his game time will be limited at Liverpool.

Somehow I doubt that bothers him the slightest

Yeah, he's really going to want to leave his boyhood club.

How many cases of a player signing a permanent deal away and then being loaned back have there ever been?. Difficult to see how that would sit with the fans. The only scenario I could see would be a sale in January for financial reasons from a club threatened with relegation, but even then it must reduce the transfer fee.
Don't want Lambert back myself. He gave us his best years and we need to look to the future. Also, what if missed a penalty?

You are of course correct Channonfodder I was really joking, I remember Saints players of old returning to club and never reaching their former heights. The great Micky Channon springs to mind?

    I would imagine he doesn't give a ****.

Although not instigated by the fans, Saints had attempted to reduce Lamberts playing time and I think if we're honest at this level and at his age it's very difficult to spearhead a front line week in week out to a consistently high standard.

Liverpool will have at the very least six more games than us with the champions league. He will be needed and i'm very confident he will take his chances

He was probably quite happy to get nearly 300 seconds in World Cup. He would be delighted to get any game time at Liverpool. One goal in front of the Kop and he will retire a happy man

I doubt Rogers realises what he's got in Lambert. If he does play he will probably be played in a position which doesn't suit him so I can't see him being a massive success.

In answer to your question then, I can imagine the Liverpool fans questioning why they have bought him and ultimately him ending up with Tranmere:undecided:

I couldn't disagree more, I think Rodgers knows exactly what he has bought. He's a ridiculously astute manager. Lambert will be a great impact player for them this season IMO.

    Not a starter then?

We'll see. It will be interesting.

Not a starter in the big games at least. But he's already talking about Rickies "tremendous qualities" etc in that annoying manner of his!

Rickie is obviously not going to be the number one striker there and more than likely, wasn't going to be here either. He will be the plan B. That isn't longball stuff but using him to link up, set up play and be dangerous from set pieces. Now plan A is no more (give it to Suarez), he may get more time than he thought.

Gonna be a tough fight for sixth beteween Liverpool and the Spuds.

I want us to sing his song to him one last time as he warms up before the game on the opening weekend?

I don't see why the song should change. He took us to the premier league - wherever/whenever he goes that'll always be a fact!
