Yesterday marked 40 years today since the first episode of The Tube on channel 4, a music show that first gave us Jools Holland as a presenter, so paved the way for later but on its first show it also gave us The Jam live, hard to believe that they had announced that they were splitting only a few days earlier. Like any music show it was only as good the bands on it so some weeks it was brilliant other weeks not so good. But when it was good it was the best music show on TV at the time.
So following on from the tube we fast forward about 12 years to later with Jools, tricky to pick a clip as there have been many great performances so without any bias here is a clip from the artist who has the most appearances on this show.
Loved UFO! (and not just for the women on moonbase) Really dark themes for such a series. Later missed an opportunity with UFO2 which kind of became Space 1999 which was almost good (though had IMHO one of the most iconic spacecraft ever to appear in film or TV).
Indeed. The episode where the SHADO guy got the "fiary liquid" treatment terrified me as a kid (but more than made up for by the Dinky toys) .
