    Purely hypothetical here as the chances are literally minuscule, BUT...

    If we did quality for the Champions League, do you think Alan Pardew would go down as one of Newcastle United's all-time heroes? Surely taking us from relegation to the CL in a couple of years would immortalise him as one of the great legends of our club alongside Keegan, Robson, Shearer and others?

    Well he didnt really take us from relegation. Credit does go to Hughton who got us out of the fizzy pop at the first time of asking. Wouldn't be far off it though. Would probably require a consistent couple of years of qualification to get to that level, although getting the name on a cup would have him jump the queue massively.

    He would have to be. He may get it wrong sometimes, but lets face it, we never expected anything near this from him.

    If we get into the CL and don't just go out in the qualifying stages, then push for the CL for next few years, then yeah.

    What about doing it once, though?

    I mean which other teams have went from being relegated to being in the CL within the space of a couple of years? This is all hypothetical btw, just to re-clarify.

    Personally, I'm not sure if he would go down as a legend in the same vein as Sir Bobby and co, but I certainly think he would be written into Newcastle folklore as the man who did it after turning the club around so dramatically.

    Think its harsh on Hughton to say he had taken us from relegation but I think for him to achieve that in our second year in the league in the current footballing climate would be a massive achievement and probably would lead to him receiving legendary status.

    What would people want? Easyish Champions League draw or big guns? Personally, I want to see the lads running out at the Bernabeau, the San Siro or the Nou Camp again.

    I don't see why it's so unlikely for us to finish in the top 4. We are 5th at the moment and we have strengthened our squad while our competitors for 4th spot haven't. I believe.

    Ba, Cisse, Tiote and Cabaye all to come back...it's not out of the question but you'd fancy Liverpool or Chelsea to claim it. String a few more wins together and we're well in the hunt though. If we get 9 points from the next 4 games it could happen. Personally, I think we'll get 7.
