That was a great ride on Dora Penney. She looked beat 2f out but he pulled her back inside to remind her she was racing and then outside again where she took off and battled on gamely to win.

Wow. Wonderful Tonight was impressive there to win like that after giving Buick a tough ride all the way.

Never backed a winner at all today. Putting it down to the going, Lots of runners in handicaps and being crap at betting.

I think the bet went on at 6/1 so that would have returned £220,000 for a £200,000 stake.

Depends on whether the place was paying 1/5th or 1/4 I suppose. Academic anyway - he won a few quid.

    TV picks today:

12.50 - Stone Of Destiny. The pace horse in this race will probably be King Of Stars who is drawn next to Stone Of Destiny so assuming they break well Stone Of Destiny should get a good run behind that King Of Stars before pushing on a couple furlongs out.

1.25 - Call My Bluff. This horse has always kept its best form for the ****ty weather and slow tracks. The rain that's coming down today should give it every chance.

2.00 - Sam Cooke. Don't really fancy anything in this race but went for this horse as he's dropped in the weights and seems to be improving for it. Might get over the line today.

2.25 - Dubai Mirage. No good horses in this race so I'll go for this one who at least has form at the racecourse.

2.35 - Bear Force One. Lightly raced horse who was in a race over 2f further on comeback which is generally a sign they're lining up the next one when over the ideal trip. Decent price and could go well.

2.50 - Value Theory. This horse looks like one of Johnston's better prospects. Won well the last time out and should improve again today.

3.10 - SKYCUTTER. I'm backing this horse. It's hiding in the lower half of the betting but has some really good form in France in similar conditions that are expected today. Hopefully will take to the Ascot course and go close.

3.45 - Dream Composer. Will relish the conditions today and an improving horse.

4.10 - Euchen Glen. Went close last time out and was unlucky not to get its head in front. Hopefully will make amends today.

Only backed 2 today. Barn Owl and I forget the other. Came back from the match and both bloody non runners. Unsuitable ground.

I never backed a thing Gil, I'm not sure many people did today. I thought it was supposed to be lashing down with rain but it was nice at Ascot with some blue sky so I left it alone rather than plough through all the form again and enjoyed the match without needing to switch over instead.

I love Ayr, I always do well at this course so I'm having a go at all their races tonight.

Good start. Missed the 2nd race with being on here <doh>

Third race my tenna is on Red Bond. Second run after wind surgery today and this is usually the time to catch them...

My wife is leaving me because of my obsession with horse racing.

    She's at the gate . . . . and she's off !

Could this be the day for the speedball Ornate at 66/1. Cheek pieces back on, new jockey. Carries 8lb less than when 250/1 beaten 7l in a G1 in June in a fast time (Close up early, dropped to midfield and pushed along 4f out, in rear when ridden 2f out, kept on but never going well (op 200/1). Usually well up with the pace. Only 12 months ago when beaten 7l by Battaash at level weights in the G1 Nunthorpe, carrying a stone more than he carries today. If he is on song he should leave this lot standing :)

Could it be his age is starting to catch up with him, now, Ron? These sprinters can quickly lose a touch of pace and confidence when up against the young guns. Caspian Prince being the exception to the rule, obviously...

<laugh> good old Caspian Prince. he keeps going doesn't he. Ornate seems to run everyday. Yes he is 8 but sprinters can go on a bit longer. He has been weighted out of every race lately except one which he won 5 months ago. That was a Class 2. At today's weights this could be the best chance he has had for a while. WH are going 80/1 1/5th the odds 6 places. If he can't get in the first 6 today he ought to be retired

Alright, Ron. You've sold me it. 50p EW it is :emoticon-0141-whew:

    60/1 at 1/4 odds, 5 places.

As for Caspian Prince, he'll be leaving them in his dust when he's 20... He's a teenager now, isn't he?

Oh dear. I have no idea what has happened to him. Looks like he is finished. Time to retire I think. Or maybe a change of yard to someone who knos what they are doing?
