After Saturday's debacle that doesn't surprise me at all. He's had a few ok games in the quarters but far too many catastrophic errors. Apparently he's going to the Scottish Premiership.
Joey Barton explains why Bristol Rovers want Brett Pitman to tear ankle tendon. The striker has suffered partially torn a superfluous tendon in his ankle, and the Bristol Rovers medical staff want it to tear fully so he can work towards full fitness. Joey Barton has revealed Bristol Rovers' medical staff hope Brett Pitman will tear the problem tendon in his ankle to accelerate his recovery. Rovers feared the worst the striker felt a pop in his ankle in the week before the season, assuming he had suffered a ruptured Achilles. However there was a huge sigh of relief with the tear occurring to a superfluous tendon adjacent to his ankle. Pitman has made two substitute appearances for Rovers this season, with his mobility and playing time compromised by the discomfort in his ankle. However, Rovers and the player are eager to play through the pain, not only to get the proven goalscorer on the pitch but also to fully tear the tendon. That would initially rule him out for a few days, but ultimately stop the pain and get him to a place where he is fit to start for Barton's blues. The manager explained: "Those little cameos are great for him, but we thought we’d done his Achilles. Luckily he didn’t and when they went for the scan, I’m not a physio or a doctor but there’s a tendon next to your Achilles that you don’t need. I don’t know how it’s possible but you don’t need it and his is three-quarters of the way torn, so at some point it’s going to go and the only way it goes is by running or playing. When it goes, he’s going to miss 7-10 days and then it’ll settle back down and then he’ll be good to go." The striker's injury has been a huge cause of frustration for Rovers, with the former Bournemouth and Portsmouth forward a key player in Barton's overhauled squad. After staring in his only pre-season game, scoring twice in a friendly win over Oxford United, he has been sorely missed in a Rovers side which has scored just three goals in five games this season.
Agree CJS with Harries, Westbrooke and Barrett to go, I think if we can keep Brandon Hanlan playing upfront with Pitman he will get a lot of goals when he is not expected to carry the the workload on his own
Hanlan plays too deep and doesn't actually create a lot let alone score goals. He works very hard, but not very effectively.
Hanlan has passed his medical at Wycombe for a fee of £150,000-00 plus add ons according to Bristol Live The Rovers site says that Hanlan has joined Wycombe for an undisclosed fee
Five days to get a new striker in through the door. It better not be Leon Clark - we’ll become a retirement home for past-it forwards looking for a final paycheque.
We literally have just Pitman as a striker. We have others who can play that role but how did that turn out last season with not having enough proper strikers at the club? Pitman is injured too and unable to complete a full 90 minutes. So.... we need 1 but should get 2 strikers in before the deadline. We've not learnt any lessons from last season. It's pathetic that we are in this situation. Barton said we will be ready and be the fittest squad in the league come the start of the season. We are nowhere near ready and fitness wise, it's the worse I've ever seen at Rovers for as far as I can remember. We now have a squad of 21 players (not including u21's) and the max is 20. We still need 1 RB and 2 CF's. That will put us up to squad number 24. So 4 need to go. Harries, Westbrooke and Barrett takes us to 21 again. We'll see what happens this week but I have no confidence whatsoever.
I can’t say I have a lot of confidence either. It’s just bs pouring out of that bloke’s mouth all the time.
It really is a shambles that we're in the same position as January in not having enough strikers and scrambling around at the last minute trying to cobble something together. Wael and Barton are asleep at the wheel - same as Widdrington was earlier this year.
