I saw a clip of him being interviewed and he was imploring our 'young guns' to stay at NR1 for at LEAST one more year, so I'd be AMAZED if he then left for 'megabucks'before he's had a chance to prove himself in the PL. As was said on the General Football thread, it's just the Sun (and others) trying to fill the sports pages!!
Yep like another report urging us to buy Delph from Man City for 15m. Lots of opinion pieces dressed up as insider knowledge.
If the rumour was Liverpool, I'd be more worried, as SW would be a much better fit with Klopp, given his long Dortmund background. I agree with JMF that he's really committed to this season in the PL. He did leave Huddersfield a few months before they went up to the PL, but I suspect that may have been due to an uneasy relationship with the owners and the structure there.
£7m on top of what we already paid, pretty sure there was a loan fee and a further payment because we gained promotion. Cheeky ****s have 7 strikers on their books I would estimate £3 or £4m tops .
Maybe this is Bruce's way of sticking two fingers up over the 'derisory' initial bids we made for Robbie Brady when SB was manager of Hull?
They paid over £10m for him and he didn't do well for Wednesday and rarely got a game, I like the guy but he wasn't integral to our season either . They did quite well to get us to pay his wages and Chuck them a sizeable chunk to rent him , £7m for someone fast approaching 30 with no resale value? Give him back and sign him for free when his contract runs out next year . They know we just got about €200m so push the price up on him , can't see many other clubs wanting him at that price either . Go shove it up your arse Brucey
I don't think Liverpool are doing too badly 2nd in the league Champions League final . Man United have gone from disaster to disaster since Fergie left but I wouldn't say Solskjaer Phelan and Webber would be a good fit . Those millionaire French egos like Pogba would just sneer at him as a no mark and I doubt he has the connections to bring in top players that Manchester United are used to. I doubt Solskjaer will survive beyond next January if poor results continue.
That's about right. I'd say £4m max, given that his wages are nearly £2m. If we do move on I wonder whether we might look at a loan for Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal. Bit of a risk as he's only 19 but he can play as a striker or on either wing. Our style of play could well suit him and he'd get valuable PL experience. Just a thought. There's also Kwasi Wriedt from Bayern at about £3m and young and hungry.
Other than the time he spent at Huddersfield Rhodes has been ridiculously over rated. I like him but he's not worth anything like that amount bandied about
I think the connection thing is the reason they want him, they want to switch from the failed business model of buying mega stars who don't turn up and can't play as a team and they want to start picking up the unrated 21 year olds who just want to play and win rather than thinking about their next sponsorship deal, that was my understanding of why Man U are sniffing around (assuming they actually are)
That doesn't sound like the Man United global brand, their fans won't settle for unheard of players from Bundesliga 2 and as soon as Webber shows interest you can add another zero if it's Man U to any bargain players . The business model works for us because we are forced to play academy players and recruit bargain basement misfits...
It would be a shame if SB can't see that JR is keen to move, but won't budge on the ridiculous price tag. I'd forgotten about Wriedt and he would be represent much better value for money.
The sort of money we are talking looks to be going into a Naismith type mistake. No room for sentiments, if Jordan takes a pay cut and forces the move then sign him but let's not get our tummies tickled by Bruce. They want his wages off their books, if they get too greedy they will be lumbered with him .
Not sure if it's true of Wriedt, but the advantage of Nketiah is that he can play as a striker or on either wing, which would make him very useful in our attacking setup and as he's homegrown and under 21 he wouldn't count in the 25 man squad, meaning that we could have him on loan and Rhodes or another striker as well.
Marriott will go up tomorrow and the score 3-2 Derby get on it and prepare to cash out before 90 mins
