This is on the WO site, seems a strange one to come out with, does this show lack of ambition or SD believes we have enough firepower within the current squad: http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/548049837?-276
Bound to provide an opportunity in the short term, though whether Garner and Deeney have enough goals in them to be a long term answer is debatable. I suspect SD is being cagey about what sort of loan player we might get as a replacement is because whoever he has in mind is by no means certain to be available.
We have many attacking players at different levels of developing Troy Deeney Joe Garner Chris Iwelumo Britt Assombalonga and Gavin Massey who in their ten combinations could produce something interesting. We were in a position where Marvin played and Chris Iwelumo would play when he was fit so the opportunity to experement was not there. This is not good to have this half way in a season where there is possibly a struggle against relegation but it must be done.
He is giving confidence to those two who scored on Tuesday really..saying go out and prove yourself. I am sure he has other options in mind but the last thing we want is another Beattie type loan signing. We tend to be better at getting decent midfielders and defenders in on loan!
Beattie started off injured, scored one in three, got injured again, and then Deeney forced his way in. Sure, it didn't work out, but it's not the worst loan in the world.
I am one for looking forward, probably when it comes to football there is no 'kin point in looking back. On a very simple level MS leaving will create an opportunity - and I believe that Garner will fill it. We have a lot of options and most importantly pace (Try excluded), if SD selects the tactics well, we will move on. I am very positive at the moment...
me too...and i suspect we won't hoof as much now...or is that just my imagination? Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!
well, maybe we'll get someone in on loan, or use another of the younger players? Who knows, Weimann might come back!
Well he's not on Villa's '25 list', so he must be going somewhere! Even though he's not a natural goalscorer, fingers crossed.
It's 25 plus those under 21, and I think Weimann is in the latter category, as I suspect MS could be for Bolton, although with the size of their squad he's probably in the 25.
In the last 18 months our 3 main strikers have scored 24 league goals in 173 appearances so that's a goal every 7.2 games.
