And VAR is there to see that the Taylors, Atkinsons et al make the right decisions, despite their innate inclinations. That's why Diego and his ilk are so afraid of it. As said, VAR means Liverpool are on-course to win the first ever honest Prem title. No need to review that decision. <ok>

Anthony Taylor should not be allowed to referee Liverpool matches

    https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...r.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar

I do not understand why Anthony Taylor keeps being given Liverpool games to referee.

First off, I don't think he's a very good official and it is questionable whether he is of a high enough standard to referee in the Premier League.

But the fact he is from Manchester makes it even more of a problem for the Premier League and PGMOL, the body responsible for match officials.

We are told he is an Altrincham supporter so that is why they deem it acceptable for him to officiate Liverpool and Everton matches, as well as Manchester City and Manchester United ones.

Well Mike Dean is a Tranmere Rovers fan but has been largely kept away from fixtures involving the Merseyside clubs (apart from the recent Anfield derby). So where's the difference?

The Wolves gamewas not a one-off with Taylor. There have been issues almost every single time he has refereed us, most notably the big game at Manchester City almost exactly a year ago when he should have sent off Vincent Kompany for a two-footed professional foul on Mo Salah in the first half.

He showed him a yellow, City won the game narrowly and we all know how crucial that was in the final running for the title race when we lost by one solitary bloody point.

A Manchester referee in charge of a game between a Manchester team and a Liverpool team - how is that in any way acceptable?

Taylor very rarely gives us any big decisions and there are loads of examples. Some fans are saying he is biased against us but he should not be being put in a position where people are even asking the question. It's not right, on him or on us.

The Lallana handball decision he gave was a joke. I was doing commentary for LFC TV up in the gods of the Kenny Dalglish stand 200 yards away and even I could see it came off his shoulder.

He was 15 yards away and for him to try and disallow the goal was comical. VAR has taken a lot of criticism of late, and some of it rightly so, but against Wolves it made Anthony Taylor look like what he is - a very very poor referee.

And VAR is now threatening his specialised income streams. Good. Good that it does that to all of them.

VAR or not some people are not going to be happy for Liverpool to be top of the league or win the league:emoticon-0172-mooni.

Especially those that are afraid of empirical facts and truth - it's ruining the spirit of the game (and the ref's secret, offshore account) don't you know? <doh>

Take out VAR decisions, Liverpool are still top of the league .Some are not going to accept that that Liverpool are better than their teams.

    I get a #calledit from years ago
I genuinely don’t think there is anything personal in it
I have always said I believe him to be a poor ref
    He loses control of games
Anyone who plays the game should be able to see why
It would drive make crazy playing in a game with him officiating

It's exceptional nonsense to think English referees favour us even the slightest when our European record without them far exceeds our domestic record with them.

I don't get the added time argument.

Time is only added on to replace time that was "missed/wasted". Theoretically, without the VAR delay, the game restarts sooner so they get the same amount of time remaining in the match.

Realistically, we're all know the referee never adds enough time to cover all stoppages that should be covered so they probably got less time because of VAR.

My point was that Mané's goal came at 43 mins meaning there were only 2 minutes left of normal time - there weren't any stoppages that I can remember and the ref generally doesn't add time if only 1 goal has been scored, rarely more than 1 minute added to first half ever. So just to reiterate, 2 minutes of the half remained. The VAR checks added 6 minutes which extended to 7 to let them take a corner. If the VAR check had of taken half an hour then an extra half an hour would have been added to a half that only had 2 minutes remaining before all the checks.

All the time added wasn't legitimate playing time but extra time in which several more goals could have been scored that would have been grossly unfair for either side.

I think the clock should stop for the standing around time while the checks are being done. Then restart to play out the 2 minutes.

I know what you meant but you've just explained it yourself; the time added is the time VAR took.

I didn't see the game so with there being 6/7mins added, I assume the game restarted around the 49mins mark? And ended on 51/52mins?

Precisely. And Alan Shearer is one of the main culprits, imo (and the rest of the MoTD team too), for revelling in VAR 'controversies' (i.e. correct decisions that favour Liverpool), and skimming quickly over those decisions, such as those highlighted in this report, and the Mane booking at Villa compared to the VAR overturn for Mahrez at Wolves as well.

The narrative is beginning - 'Liverpool are only winning because of VAR': the counter narrative is the truth - it's only taken this long to win the title because we've never had a system that nullifies bent refs (and their defenders in the media) before.

Seem to remember last year and every other year of the PL (since football went TV mad) that pundits were bemoaning the lack of VAR and goals being scored despite being offside, that these decisions were costing teams points and managers their jobs.
Pundits in the studios drawing lines on freeze framed action and saying 'That's offside' at half time or after the matches, even if it was by a toe or knee or whatever.

Here's the thing about VAR and offside, so far its been right (to the letter of the law) 100% of the time. Even if that has meant someone if offside by their armpit (level with the shoulder, which you can score with).

Only reason its been talked about is because It is something to talk about.

This is true, gives the pundits and little hangers on something to whine about without actually having to engage any of the little brain cells floating round.

I'd be more shocked if one of them broke ranks and said but it's doing its job correctly, why are people yaring
