I have to say fair play to James for his performances. Whilst I don't think he's been all that great defensively, he has contributed upfield.

Quite damning that he's been no worse than Moreno.

I cannot understand it, why a natural right footed is better than natural left footed in left back position.
Failure of Moreno has created position for Milner, otherwise. Milner would not be playing regular football.
Milner made use of this opportunity cleverly. Wonder what Moreno is thinking??.

The better foot thing is largely irrelevant. Why? cos you can't really make many slide tackles anymore. If you can run about in the position and close down and block crosses you will be fine.

The fact is he is a winger who has played both left and right wing for many clubs as well as CM should be giving you a clue as to why he can play in klopp's system at LB.

    a) he can cross of either foot.

    b) he can beat someone... more than moreno who is all head down and run then smash the ball as hard as he can

    c) he's got some bit of sensibleness (though he still fouls too much)

the reality is it is in attacking that he looks better not defense. People are mistaking a guy making genuine width for a guy who's been pushed defensivily cos in reality he's not REALLY been challenged at the back yet.

We have with retrospect view played the following teams

swansea: id he really have much down that right side. did he get skinned a couple times yes.
hull.. a non entity of a game given an early goal and red card. he played LW most of game.
Cheslea... this was a decent game for him. ivanovic played so was no threat but he had willian to contend with.
Leicester: again quite an easy ride for him. he did get skinned a couple times but leicester were so all over the place in midfield they got destroyed
tottenham 1-1. probably the best game but thier goal game from his side. but then again rose should never have scored.
burnely loss. both goals came form us coughing up the ball high up.. got done by the press.

so he's played 6 games. there. the spurs one is the only one really to judge him defensively.

He has play all those games offensively and has delivered excellent results from there which of course is klopp's intention

Just a quick point... how many times have you lads seen moreno get in a decent position and then lash and i mean lash a wild ball across the box? Milner has done well in linking with the other guys and keeping the game going.

I was actually looking at the stats behind that article so i did find something interesting in it

    1. 14 chances created, shows how few guys we get in the box. The assist i am not sure on when that was but there you go.
    2. 88% pass success rate from full back. Thats impressive
    3. 79% of tackles won.

Its quite interesting as klopp calls these the key positions.

Deffo different styles at play. You can see clyne crosses less but tries to pick someone out when he does. Milner is more inclined to put the ball in the area and see what happens.

Milners not had a single shot outside the pens which suggests he sticks wide, whereas clyne is coming into the middle at times.

In defence the are very similarly rated in terms of stats.. but these are rather basic and don't show who they lost or when and what goals resulted.

Milners passing is better and he seems to be in a lot more aerial battles than clyne is. which suggests milner is either seeing more actions or is competing more in certain areas.

    Its deffo interesting.

That's because Miller is English and doesn't know how to pick a pass like Clyne.

Clyne is from london which makes his a southerner. Milner is a northern lad therefore more likely to be a true hoofer.

I disagree MITO - I think Milner is much more intelligent when it comes to crossing into the box. I think clyne is awful on the ball - the only thing he does well is get up and down the flank and get into good positions.
