i dont understand either why he gets into the team, i would rather heskey played instead of him. seriously though woy needs to play johnson instead of milner.
he's one of these journeymen who does well for himself. Nothing really outstanding, a good pro. His moves like Waddle but isn't the same class..
He's a hard worker, tracks back and can play almost anywhere. Downing for Johnson would make more sense for a swap but the fact is Johnson's hardly played.
He can't play right midfield, that's for sure, and I have reservations about his ability to play centre midfield.
I'd rather see Glen Johnson playing right midfield if Hodgson wants more defensive wide men, to be honest Johnson is also better going forward than Milner, he's useless in the center of the midfield aswell, he works hard running around chasing everything but that often leaves him totally out of position and at international level that kind of weakness in the middle of the park will be exposed.
He looked much better when moved to the left, and his work off the ball is often very under appreciated.
Johnson has 26 games, 6 goals in the PL this season. Milner is ****e, especially on the wing. Hodgson = Dross dross, ****ing dross.
And Milner' played 36 and is a completely different kind of player to Johnson so there's no point comparing. He works well for the kind of football we need to play to stand any chance. If there's an issue with any player taking Johnson's place it's Downing, but then again he's played 20 more games. There's a lot more thought that needs to go into an England squad than simply picking players that look good. Mancini's clearly a **** manager as well for playing Milner more often in a title winning team, or maybe there's more to football than dribbling and shooting from long range.
You know a player in a supposedly attacking position is ****ing ****e when people commend his work off the ball. And we saw a lot of his work off the ball yesterday, as he avoided it like the plague. And when he did touch the ball he gave it away with impressive consistency.
Just like everyone else in the team, apart from Rooney who I don't remember touching it at all. The fact is if we're going to set our stall out to be difficult to beat, which it seems we are and we need to be without Wilshere in the squad, then Milner is incredibly useful.
Not the biggest Milner fan but it is obvious from the last two friendly's that Woy is choosing hard-working, defensively sound midfielders and trying to tighten up the amount of mistakes we make. That's why players like Milner and Henderson have been chosen instead of Lennon or A. Johnson. Don't say I agree with it, but so far it's worked.
If we were to go all out trying to create a creative, attacking team we'd just end up an inferior version of Spain and Germany and get found out very regularly, especially without Wilshere. Instead we're doing what the Dutch did in the WC and try a different way to beat these teams.
Totally symbolises Hodgson's England. It'll be alright when we're winning 1-0, but if we go behind and we've got this compact midfield with Milner and very possibly Downing on the other side, I reckon old Roy's going to get it with both barrels!
We've scraped to two tight wins against a **** team and a decent team with no strikers. We might scrape out the group as runners up but as soon as we face a decent team we will lose, which is a shame as there are English players to match those of Germany, France, Holland etc.
Are there ****. Hodgson has us playing to our strengths in the hope we can beat superior teams in the same way Chelsea did in the CL.
How many teams at the Euros are better than the team we could put out? 3? Setting up in a way that barely sees us beat Norway isn't going to improve our chances of doing well.
