It's from the Scottish Sun......but as it was also in WLS there's some legs in it.....

Meanwhile, QPR director of football Les Ferdinand ran the rule over striker Lawrence Shankland on Friday and is mulling over a bid when the window opens later this week.

Celtic, Rangers, Brentford, Norwich and Everton have all watched Shankland this season.

Neilson isn’t surprised scouts are flocking to United’s games and insists the Scotland striker won’t be the only player they are looking at.

But with the prize of promotion so valuable to United chairman Mark Ogren, the manager reckons it would take a crazy offer to prise anyone star away.

He said: “I would expect there to be interest in a number of our players because they’ve done well this season.

“Lawrence is the obvious one because of his goals, but the two young full-backs have been outstanding and our goalkeeper has done well too.

“I’d imagine a number of clubs and managers have been watching us. The chairman has stated all along that the most important thing is to be promoted, so we can’t be making too many changes in January.

“Obviously in football everyone has their price and clubs are selling clubs. Even Celtic and Rangers fall into that bracket.

“That’s the business model of every club in Scotland. You give players the platform to play.

Smith and Mlakar going back seems sensible, but is it just our decision can the parent club not agree?
Mlakar is not even making the match day squads. Smith is out of his depth, which is surprising bearing in mind he did so well for Twente last year.

So going for Shankland makes perfect sense.

Might we recall Dieng from Doncaster, where he seems to be playing well, not sure Cardiff would release Smithies to be honest.

But where do we get a proper centre back from...that must be the priority, but actually is it??.
There is big talk we are sending Masterson out on loan, so he can play next year. Phillips is holding down a place at table topping Wycombe
Only SLF etc know how long Barbet is actually out for. So next season we could have 5 CBs...so are we looking there for just a loan.

    Will we sell Eze?
£20 million seems a stiff asking price.. even £15million +Freeman from Sheff United...but would Eze go there? Maybe as he will probably get 18 months in the premier league to make his mark for another big move?
£10 million plus signing Amos andClarke from Spurs seems more up Eze's and our street...but that does not sound like a deal that Levy would allow.

We do things a lot more quietly now
I think we will have a couple of surprises

I read we have a break clause. Given they aren’t playing I expect Brighton/City will send them somewhere they will. Smith has been a huge disappointment- Tom Carroll II and not as good.

We all love Eze but no way is he worth £20m yet, certainly not to a prem team which is likely to have to make significant changes in playing style to accommodate him.

£12m loan back for the rest of this season, big cut of future transfer value.

When was the last time we got more than 10m for a player? I can only recall Chris Samba and the sell on from Sterling.

They turned down our bid (2-3 million) in the summer, cannot imagine we could or would want to add much more now, unless we are selling Eze.

Celtic & Rangers both rumoured to be bidding for him, I think Champions League prospects would put us out of the running...

Someone might pay a lot, doesn’t mean the player is worth it.

But I don’t think anyone will pay £20m for Eze.

Hugill definitely wasn't worth it, but Leicester paid £20m for Maddison when he was a Championship player at the same stage of his career as Eze is now and he definitely was worth it. I don't think we should take less than £20m, but I suppose FFP may dictate that we have to. We aren't in a strong negotiating position are we?

We were supposed to have offered 2 or 3 million for a Scottish central defender late on in the last window, which indicated we had some cash available, and weren't in a situation where we were forced by FFP to sell anyone cheap then.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but I think we should look to bring someone in who is somewhat of a dead ball specialist. Our corners and free kicks have been woeful pretty much since we lost Buzsacky. It's time we had someone competent in that area.

As everyone knows, we need a centre half. I won't say much on that.

I think we need a good right back as Kane doesn't do it for me. He doesn't quite seem to have the ability or strength of character. However, he would be a decent backup to a better player.

We also need a promising left back. Wallace has recently proved himself to be a good little player. Someone young who can give him a bit of competition would go a long way, in my opinion.

Although I like Cameron, his legs are going now. We've got several players who could be coached into really good talents: Ball, Amos and Scowen. However, I feel we could do with someone old school to replace Cameron; big, strong, steady, good on the ball. Probably not the top priority now but just a thought. However, if there's a midfielder like that going who is also good with the dead ball, might be a good idea.

Regarding the above, if a good new centre half comes in, that could release Grant Hall to pick up his central defensive midfield role which brought us success previously.
